"JOSH! Josh!"the child screamed as he ran with all his might towards Joshua's open arms.The moment their bodies collided,Joshua hauled the boy in the air with such force that anyone watching would fear for the boy's life.Then he caught the boy and whirled him round.Bella's heart had actually skipped a beat.She sat in a car opposite the school,watching them intently.Oblivious to Joshua,Bella had followed him from the restaurant.
He had walked straight from there to this school.The school was a public one,painted pink and pale green,with fading windowpanes and a beautifully trimmed hedge around it.She had known at once that it was a children's school.But what was Joshua doing here?
He had stood outside,resting against one of the pillars.He hadn't even broken a sweat in all the distance he had trekked.He just stood there,patiently,watching the school clock on the wall.
Tick Tock.Tick Tock.
Bella was actually the one counting the minutes.Joshua did not move one bit.She groaned and slammed the steering wheel with a grunt.
How could he be so calm in this sweltering heat?What was he doing here?She needed answers.
As if she had been heard,the school bell rang loudly.
In seconds,scores of children poured out of the classes running,the excitement of going home shining in their eyes.There was one boy that had caught her eye, though.
She did not know how she'd recognized him amidst the sea of students,but she had.She did not know what gave him away first-the hair,the eyes,or the lower lip- but she'd known almost immediately that he was Joshua's.He'd proven her right when he sprinted like a gazelle the moment he saw Joshua & judging by the glee on his face after Joshua had hauled him up high like he was a bird and not a human,it was clear that he wasn't the least bit bothered about being thrown like that,unlike Bella who was.
But that wasn't the only thing she was bothered about.The resemblance between Joshua and the child was uncanny.
Could it be-
No way.
Bella's eyes almost popped out of their sockets.
Joshua had a son.

"The fuck you mean he has a son?"she shot at Bella.Nina had one hand on her phone and the other hand on the key she had just inserted into the keyhole leading to her home.She paused outside the door,listening intently to what Bella was saying.
"I am not kidding,Nina.Joshua Pere has a son.I fucking followed him from the restaurant while you just hopped all the way home cause you couldn't wait to see Peyton,"Bella said and groaned."I didn't believe it at first.Didn't want to.Until he walked a few blocks from the school-"
"Huh?"Nina interrupted."What school?"
"The school I followed him to in the first place,you bonehead,keep up,"Bella retorted,clearly exasperated.She was not taking the news well.She hated surprises.This would ruin their plans. Apparently,Nina was not aware of it yet unless she wouldn't be whining in her ear.
"Why did you follow him in the first place, Bella,huh?Stalker much?"
"Ugh!"
"And how are you so sure he has a son?Could be his little brother,for all you know.But no,you just had jump to conclusions like a flea,"Nina replied,shaking her head.
"Let.Me.Finish."Bella's voice was strained."I followed him from the school to a small neighborhood about two miles from the school.Let me just say,for the record,that Joshua is one heck of a trekker.The nigga walked from the restaurant to the school then to his girlfriend's place and-"
"His what?Joshua hasn't got a girlfriend.He's single at the moment,girl,I did my research.Maybe that's just one of his sex buddies.Maybe-"
"Shut up,por favor!I don't know whether she's his girlfriend or not,I just know that he cares about her deeply.Looking at them,you'd think they were a family or something.."
"Who?"
"Joshua,with the girl and child,"Bella answered.
Nina sighed."Are you there right now?"
"Sí,"Bella replied."I'm watching him.They're on the porch of the house,all three of them.She's ruffling Joshua's hair and the baby is kissing his cheek.Ugh.Why didn't you find out about this Nina?You know I hate surprises."
"I'm sorry,I'm sorry.O-kayyy?"Nina said,stretching the words."I have to go now.I'll call you later.I'm about to face my murderous family.Bye,B,"she said hastily.
Bella ended the call,her eyes never leaving Joshua.The little boy had gone into the house.Joshua was smiling widely at the girl.His smile was so genuine;unlike the one he had given her a while back.The girl was looking at him with undiluted adoration.Bella studied her.She was very pretty,in a child-like way.Dark skin,almond shaped eyes,braids that were of three different colours as was usual with the youths of nowadays.She can't be more than nineteen,Bella thought.And the boy looked like a two year old.Which means Joshua had impregnated her at seventeen.
She scoffed in disgust.
Pervert,she thought and drove away speedily.
