The sight nearly took her breath away. From the rooftop, she could see everything. From the tips of the mountains on the foggy horizon,to the blinking neon lights of a bar a few metres away.She could see the pedestrians moving hurriedly,their minds preoccupied with different missions.A businessman readjusted his tie and wiped beads of perspiration from his forehead with the back of his hand as he exited his place of work.A mother yelled at two of her running children while she pushed a baby in a stroller.Two lovebirds were kissing under the shade of a teashop.Cars zoomed past,stopping only to obey the laws of the traffic lights. Bella was beaming without even knowing it.
Joshua was staring at her with his heart caught in his throat,watching her different expressions.
"It's beautiful, Joshua!" she exclaimed, clapping her hands excitedly.
"No,you're beautiful," he told her softly.
"Oh,"Bella said,frowning at once." Uhh...I wasn't expecting that."
"Me neither," he replied,closing the distance between them and kissing her swiftly.
One arm snaked around her waist to bring her closer,the other buried itself in her short silky hair.
They kissed for a long time.
It felt perfect to Bella.And she couldn't help but wish that she could freeze that moment.That moment with the night falling slowly upon them and the earth being pounded upon by the various hustling and bustling of the diversely beautiful people below,with Joshua's hand in her hair and his soft lips drawing sounds of pleasure she didn't know she had from the core of her being,and with him now looking at her the way no one ever had-like she was truly the most beautiful person in the world.
But she couldn't, so she moved backwards instead,and tried untangling herself.Joshua was having none of it.His hands stayed firmly around her waist as he stared into her eyes.
Bella shook her head.
"Joshua,I can't.I'm sorry,I just-"
"Bella," he said softly,tracing a thumb down her lips.
"This was beautiful, Joshua,and I thank you for showing me,but you and I..this'll never work..."
"Bella," he whispered again,caressing her cheek.
She let out an exasperated sound."Are you even listening to me?!"
His smile made her stomach clench.
"No," he admitted, and chuckled."Truthfully, all I can think about is kissing you again."
"Oh,Lord," Bella slapped a hand on her forehead, but she couldn't help the smile that broke out on her face when he touched her nose with his."Stop it,Joshua,try to focus here!"
"I am..but your face is distracting. Why do you have to be so goddamned beautiful,I keep wondering?"
She laughed."You're nuts."
"Maybe." He took her lips with his again,moulding them silkily. "And you've probably got the sweetest lips I've ever tasted. Seriously, what is wrong with-Bella,are you crying?"
"No," she countered at once and tried to free herself from his grip,but the tears on her face was evidence enough.
"Oh my God," Joshua muttered slowly, reaching out to touch her face."Did I hurt you?"
"Just let me go!I don't wanna do this!I can't do this,okay?So just..."she clutched at his hands and tried removing them,but he only brought her closer,until their chests met and their faces were just inches apart."No..."
"Bella,come on.."
"No!I can't.. I can't do this,okay?I'm not about this life.This life of making love beneath sunsets,of feeling exhilarated by watching how the world works from the top of a building,of passionate kisses and being called beautiful out of the blue!I'm not used to it,okay?It's too much. I'm too broken to be fixed,so stop trying to fix me,I just...I don't want this!" she cried.
"Bella,I...," he leaned forward.
"Don't," she yelled, pounding on his chest."Don't say it!And for the love of Almighty, stop calling my name like that.Like it's something exotic and beautiful. It's not,okay?I'm not!I'm just ordinary and broken Bella!Get that through your-"
She started crying louder when,after all she'd said,he kissed her.He kissed her through her tears and through her trembling, not caring that thousands of pedestrians had stopped moving and were now watching them.
It wasn't until he heard clapping and shouting from down below,that he stopped and turned.
"Oh my God!" Bella gasped,covering her face in embarrassment.
Joshua chuckled once."Huh."
"Now that's how a man should behave!" one woman shouted."You show her her worth whenever she feels like she deserves nothing!"she pumped her fists in the air.
"Yeah!" Others agreed.
"Kiss her again!" A little girl shouted,jumping excitedly, her pigtails flying around."Kiss her again!"
"Yeah,kiss her again!" others chorused.
"Kiss her again!"
"Kiss her again!"
Bella shook her head as laughter bubbled from her chest.
"This is unbelievable. I can't believe this is happening," she wiped her face with her palms and sniffled.She laughed again.
"Better believe it...cos we're gonna have to give the people what they want."
"Oh Joshua,come on," she sighed."You don't have to kiss me cos you're being forced to by a mob."
An angry expression crossed his face."Why the hell would you think that?Why can't you just accept the fact that I want you?I want to kiss you,caress you,hold you, make you scream,make you cum,make you laugh so loud all the world will be able to hear you.I want to do this for you every day of my life.I don't know why,Bella,but I have this fierce desire to be there for you every day of your life and take care of you like you've never been taken care of before.Because you're weren't born to be ordinary and broken,you were born to graffiti the sky and burn down the earth."
"Well said! Now kiss her again!We've got to get going!"someone shouted from below.
He didn't have to be told twice.
He kissed her and,for the first time ever,she kissed him back without restraint.
