Chapter 53

"Oh God," Bella uttered in a voice barely recognizable as her own.
She stared down at the horror before her.
A white bird-a dove-with its throat slit and its dried blood coating the plush carpeting was lain in the hallway...right outside Joshua's door.
Animal.
Slit throat.
Death.
It all added up in a blurred frenzy.
Sebastian.
She fled.
The blood had been trailed from the stairs leading to the top of the building right to the front of the door.Bella could imagine,could almost see how Sebastian had killed the poor bird and trailed the blood to her door,spotting the floor for her to trace it to him.

The bastard,she thought as her foot slipped and she stumbled as she rushed up the stairway.

Her breathing was heavy and desperate now.

She grabbed the railing and held it firm as she ran up the stairs.
This is it.All hell breaks loose.It ends now.

The moment she burst through the door to the roof,it was as though she'd been plunged into a world of gloom and gray.The wind hit her hard,unbalancing her for a moment.She drew in a sharp breath looked at the sky.Dark clouds were gathering slowly but steadily.

She looked around,at the hazy darkness that enveloped her.There was a deadly silence.Silence which caused a nauseating feeling of fear to rise inside Bella.She tried to lower her breathing,then she heard a shuffle behind her and went stiff with shock.

"Hello,Bella."
The voice was rougher and drier than usual,but it was still the same voice.

Bella gasped.

Holy mother of God.

"It's great to see you again."

It can't be.

Bella heard footsteps and soon the cold metallic barrel of a gun was aimed at her forehead.

Penelope.

Penelope was in front of her,a sneer marring her features.

Bella raised her hands slightly in surrender,and Penelope smirked.

"Not so tough now,are you?Not so large and in charge now,are you,dear Bella?"

"Penelope... what in the world are you-"

"Silence!!" she yelled,and quickly exchanged the gun to her other hand."Just shut the fuck up!I don't wanna hear your stupid catty voice!God,how I hate you,Bella!I hate you so fucking much I could just..."Her voice trailed off.

Bella stared at her,at her small and loathe-filled face.She was shaking in anger.The gun in her hand was unsteady.

"Put down the gun,Penelope..."

"I said shut up!Shut the fuck up!I hate you!You promised to help me,promised to get us together and what'd you do instead?!What!?You took him from me!"
