Chapter 43

The all too familiar feeling of danger settled in Bella's chest like dregs at the bottom of a glass the moment she stepped into her house.
Beads of sweat trickled down her breasts as all her nerves screamed out in pain.It was to be expected.She had run nearly five miles at a stretch.Her hair was plastered to her head and her clothes clung to her skin.

"Nina?" she breathed shakily."Nin-Oh my God..."
Her lips parted in shock and she stopped in her tracks at once as her eyes fell on the person that came into view when she turned towards the stairs.

Her heart rate accelerated.

Her breath caught in her throat.

Her hand went slowly and discreetly behind her back,whilst her eyes remained trained on the person's.

The person's lips curved upwards slowly."Surprised, firestarter?"

"Bear," Bella replied,narrowing her eyes."It's nice to see you again."

The female,who was aptly named Bear for she was the size of one,took one step down the staircase.

Bella took one backwards. Her fingers carefully circled the handle of her gun situated in the back of her jeans.

The female smiled widely.She was a good seven feet tall and had broad shoulders.Bella could see her muscles bulge from underneath the oversized grey T-shirt she was wearing.Her thick black hair was packed in a large bun on the top of her head.
It had been her signature look for years,and Bella wasn't surprised to see that.What surprised her,though,were the scars that ran down both her forearms.

"You cut your hair,firestarter," Bear said,smirking, as she took another step down.She tsk-tsked."Too bad.I was planning on pinning it to a wall as I set you on fire."

"I'm already smoking hot,Bear.I don't need to be set on fire," Bella remarked,and swiftly removed the gun from her back pocket.
She aimed it at Bear and returned her smirk.

"You,on the other hand,needs to be put in a furnace.Don't come any closer.I am not in the mood for word exchange. Where's Nina?"

Bear didn't even flinch."I suggest you put away your gun,Arosemena. You're outnumbered. "

That was when Bella heard the unmistakable click of the safety of a gun being removed behind her,and a knife being unsheathed.

Her smirk disappeared immediately, and she turned slowly to look behind her.Her eyes fell upon two men,whom she knew so well.
Each was holding a weapon.

"No.."

She turned back quickly and fear clutched at her heart as she saw Bear's face in full view.

"Bear,please let's ta-Arggh!"

The slap had her reeling backwards,and sent the gun flying from her hand.She stumbled,nearly falling, but managed to stand firm on her feet.She turned her neck forward slowly to face Bear once again.She ran her tongue over her lips.
No blood.
Good.

Bella charged forward, but soon found her eyes bulging out and her breath hitched in her throat as Bear lifted her off the ground by her neck.

She wheezed loudly,her eyes watering immediately.Her hands flew to her neck.Her legs dangled in the air.

"See these lovely scars on my arms,Arosemena? I'm gonna run the same shii on your beautiful face,"Bear threatened,and gave Bella a full blown smile which showed all of her yellowing teeth."Say goodbye,pretty B."

"Bear," Bella croaked.

"Any last words,firestarter?"

Bella nodded as best she as could.She could hardly breathe.Her fingers clawed frantically at Bear's which were holding her throat tightly.

"Yes,Mena?What are your last words?"

"Go to hell."

"Oh,I'd love to,Mena.Right after you.Goodbye."
