Kennedy King:
Justin didn't give me any hints to where we would be going for our date.
But fortunately, that meant the paps didn't know either. A few photos of the two of us talking in the coffee shop surfaced the internet after three months not being seen together. The media was so confused about our relationship and honestly so were we.
I couldn't help but feel more nervous and anxious with every minute that passes. Was restarting with Justin even a good idea? I find myself constantly second guessing my decisions, but I try to assure myself that what I was doing felt right.
Smoothening out my outfit I check one last time to see that I look decent. I was just wearing a very simple summer dress paired up with some strappy sandals. Justin said he'd be picking me up around 7 and it was currently a few minutes to seven so I head downstairs.
I told him i'd be at my dad's place. Isabel helped me get ready and I felt like she was more excited than I was. "He's your first love, Kennedy. Of course this is exciting." She had said.
Theres a knock on the front door and I couldn't help but feel nervous as I got closer and closer to the door.
Taking a deep breath, I reached out and opened the door in a full motion swing, my breath getting caught in my throat as my eyes landed on the man in front of me.
He looks absolutely breath taking in the most simple way possible. The familiar feeling I get around him in my chest rises and I try to stay calm and composed.
"Hey," His lips quirk up, sending a boyish smile my way. I wonder if he's as nervous as I am.
I have to remind myself that this is just Justin. Someone who i've been in love with for quite some time now. Sure, things haven't been the easiest for us, but that's the whole point of starting over.
Justin runs a hand through his hair, pushing it out of his face, but it just flops back over. I smile at him.
"You ready?"
"Mhm," I step out carefully and close the door behind myself. Justin and I walk to his car in silence. He walks to the passenger side and opens the door for me. "Thank you."
"Not a problem," He grins before closing the door after me and jogging to the driver's side. The car ride to wherever we were going was filled with soft music playing. The lack of conversation between us isn't awkward or tense. If anything, its comfortable.
I feel as if he's watching me and I turn to look at him. I'm right. His warm brown eyes are watching me, a certain glint in his eyes. He clears his throat and looks back over to the road.
"What?" I demand. He just cracks another smile, his head firmly looking straight ahead of himself. "Nothing,"
I shift around in my seat. "Tell me." I couldn't help but chuckle.
"Honestly," He responds, "Nothing. I was just admiring."
Hmm. I turn back in my seat and look out the window, content with his answer.
Eventually Justin parks the car and we leave the parking lot together. "Are we at-"
"The beach?" He laughs, walking over to my side. "Yes. Specifically here for something delicious," He smiles.
We walk towards a little shack down by the beach and I enjoy how quiet the place is right now. It's almost empty, except a group of people way down the beach. The sounds of the waves crashing against the coast line is peaceful and I love how pretty the sky looked in it's light pink shade as the sun set.
Justin pulls out his wallet when we reach the shack. "I'd like to get one lemon gelato and cappuccino gelato please." He says, already set to pay for it. The man behind the counter of the shack nods and grabs two cups before filling them up with gelato.
"Cappuccino flavour for the lady," He grins, passing over the cup of the delicious looking dessert. Of course he knows that his is one of my favourite flavours.
"Thank you,"
We walk down the beach side by side, eating our gelatos. We end up hiking up somewhere at the beach where we could sit almost above it and watch the waves crash down. At this point the sky has gotten a little darker, but the view is still beautiful.
My eyes take in the view. "This is breath taking," I admit, allowing myself to take the view all in. Everything was just perfect. The sky, the water, the light breeze and everything in between.
Justin watches me as I glance over the view. "I agree." His voice is soft.
I turn towards him, noticing our close proximity. He bites on his lip and reaches over to push back a loose strand of my hair. For a second, I freeze. I can't seem to move or come out from my daze.
That's when Justin takes his chance to swipe my cup of gelato from my grip and take a spoonful of it before shoving it right into his mouth.
"Hey!" I snap out right away. My gelato!
I reach over in attempt to get my food back. "Give it back!" I laugh. My attempt is useless as Justin holds the cup over his head, laughing away at me.
"Justin!" I pout, playfully pushing his chest. Justin laughs, ignoring my pleads for my dessert and he pulls me into his chest with his free arm and holds me close.
I'm still stubborn as he tries to hold me close, pouting as I still think of ways to get my gelato back. Eventually I give into his hug and carefully wrap my arms around his lower waist. We stand there for a few minutes, taking in each other's presence.
My head is against his chest and I listen to heartbeat, trying to remember this moment. Trying to remember the way his heart beat and the way the waves sounded. I want to remember all of it.
For the rest of the night, we sit at together watching the water and talking about everything and anything.
Unfortunately, the night has to come to an end. The drive home isn't disappointing as we both sing along to the music.
Justin pulls up to my house and we opens the car door for me once again. I thank him and he's quick to wrap his jacket around my shoulders. I'm a little bit surprised from his actions, but I just blush and thank him once again.
He walks me to the front of my dad's house and we stand on the front steps for a few seconds as I retrieve my house keys. Looking back at him, I push back a few pieces of hair from my face and complaint what to say.
"I had fun tonight," I say, meaning every word. "Honestly. Thank you."
"There's no need to thank me. I loved every second of our little date." He winks, smiling down at me sweetly.
My heart flutters from his words.
For a split second, I think he's about to kiss me.
The way he holds onto my hand and his lips slightly part as he pulls me in close. He places his other hand onto my cheek, rubbing the skin with his thumb softly. "Beautiful..."
Then he snaps out of it and pulls away almost unwillingly, still holding onto my hand he slowly parts away from me.
"Goodnight, Kennedy." He gently whispers, backing away until our hands both drop to our sides.
And with that, he turns to go back to his car, leaving me watching on the front steps in a slight daze, my hands holding onto his jacket that was still draped around my shoulders.
With that, I enter the house and slowly close the door behind myself. Tonight was honestly perfect in every way possible.
