Soul Crushing

When the person you think you're going to marry leaves you,
Something strange happens,
You start hating life,
You start regretting everything slowly but steadily,
But most of all,
You lose who you are,
She took everything I had,
My heart,
My love,
My life,
Everyday she's on my mind,
Every poem I write I think of her,
I regret every moment I'm not telling her how beautiful she is or how glad I am,
You think of first dates,
The movies,
The coke she sipped on through her braces,
The blush and giggle when I quipped about her freckles and rosey cheeks,
At that moment I knew I was in love,
I knew this girl would steal all I had to offer,
But that was ok,
At the time I thought I'd have her forever,
Guess forever is a lie,
People don't get forevers,
We live,
We love,
Then we die regretting the hurt we gave,
If I could tell her I'd tell her this,
I still love you dearly,
Without you my suns are a little dimmer,
The colors of the sky no longer please me,
But most of all,
The stars no longer shine at night when I don't have you to watch them with me,
....that crazy girl,
She's had it so rough,
She never deserved this,
She never deserved to have a guy that would inevitably find out just how broken he really is,
But now he's no longer a problem,
Soon he won't exist,
But when he leaves,
Her name will be that last words on his lips,
And her smile the last thought his mind,
Once trapped in sorrow,
You break free,
With one stroke of a blade after another,
The bonds of sadness slip over my dead hands,
The chains of regret fall limo with no soul to hold them up,
It's soul crushing.
    Truly soul crushing.
