Alex's POV
I could feel my body jerk as I sat straight up in bed, I looked around the room frantically before realization set in that I was still at the hotel. My body was dripping with sweat, I ran a hand down my face and glanced at the clock on the small table beside the bed. Five o'clock in the morning is what it read, I sighed throwing the covers back and getting up to take a shower.
I let the hot water run down my body, washing the remnants of the dream away it wasn't that it was a bad dream, it was just surreal. I had dreamed about Annie, and in the dream I was standing at an alter in a church. As the double doors opened Annie walked in with her father, he placed her small hands in mine and just as the preacher said. " You may now kiss the bride," I woke up.
I turned the water off and started drying my hair and body, I knew the feelings I was having for Annie weren't normal, but I couldn't help it. She was unlike anyone I had ever met. Quiet, yet I could tell there were things beneath the surface that no one had been able to penetrate. I finished getting dressed, and ordered room service for breakfast.
While waiting for my breakfast to come, I placed a phone call to the guys at the lab. Someone picked up after the third ring. "Hello?" A male voice asked.
" Hey this is Dr. Watkins, is Fred Messer there?" I knew Fred personally we had went to college together.
" Yeah let me place you on a brief hold." The guy said, I waited for a minute before I heard a familiar voice say.
" This is Fred, can I help you?" He had a croaky sounding voice, that matched his red hair and freckles perfect.
" Hey Fred, This is Alex... I was calling to see if there was any news on Annie Miller yet?"
" Let me see what I can do Alex." I could hear him typing on a computer fast before replying.
" It looks like we had to send her tests off for further analysis, it's pending a report. So maybe sometime tomorrow they should send us the results." I shook my head and sighed.
" OK thanks Fred, is there any way you could please call me the moment those results are in?" I really wanted to be able to tell Annie she was going to be alright, but I had a bad feeling that when her results came back it would be everyone's worst fears confirmed.
" Sure man, is the number your calling from the one you want me to call you back on?" He asked politely.
" Yes this is my cell, so I will either answer, or be able to call you right back. Thanks man I really appreciate it." We said goodbye and hung up, just as there was a knock on my door. I opened it letting the room service guy in, he brought my food and a morning paper in and left.
I sat down and quietly scanned the newspaper, while eating my breakfast. Once I was finished I brushed my teeth and started the short walk to the hospital, after getting off the elevator; I walked to Annie's room and knocked lightly on the door.
I heard her soft voice say, " Come in" and I opened the door. Her brother was seated beside her and I couldn't help but notice the steely gaze he directed my way. " How's my favorite patient this morning?" I asked winking at Annie.
I saw the blush come on her cheeks and couldn't stop the grin from coming to my lips. I glanced at Luke and saw his face was red as well, only from anger. I gave myself a mental note to not flirt with Annie in front of him anymore.
