Author's Note: OK so this chapter will contain just a brief bit in Maggie's POV, it will mostly go from Annie to Alex. Just don't want any confusion :)
Annie's POV
I stood frozen beside Alex in the doorway of the church, I couldn't look away from where Maggie was sitting. It wasn't until I felt a hand on my shoulder that I was able to look away, my father stood beside me. " Annie, I am so happy you and Alex came." He said pulling me into a warm hug.
I pulled away, licking my dry lips, and smiled. " Thanks dad, it's took this long, but my blood count has just recently come up enough for me to be in a large crowd." He smiled shaking his head.
" I'm just glad your doing better, you certainly look better." He said looking me over, we chatted for a few more minutes and then took our seats. I glanced to where Maggie was sitting, I still couldn't believe Randy my ex, was sitting beside her with his arm draped casually around her shoulders.
She gave me an evil smile, and I quickly looked away. It wasn't that I was jealous, just confused. I had no idea that they even knew each other, Alex shifted beside me uncomfortably. The sermon began, and I quickly got lost in the message, forgetting the fact that mine and Alex's ex's were sitting together.
Alex's POV
I watched Annie lift her arms in praise to the music, I had to admit the choir was doing a wonderful job. While she looked totally in her element, I felt like an outsider looking in. To top it all off, My ex Maggie was here, sitting three pews behind us.
She had some guy sitting beside her, and I had noticed Annie's odd look of surprise when she had seen them together. Somehow she definitely knew who Maggie's friend was, but I wasn't going to bombard her with questions right now, especially when she was enjoying the service so much.
I watched her in amazement, it moved me to watch her praising a God that she so strongly believed in. Some small part of me wished I could be that way, carefree, having something to always look forward to no matter what happened.
I sighed softly, The good Lord and I both knew that was not going to happen, at least not anytime soon. I was changing, I knew that much was true, but it was a slow change and I wasn't quite ready to make that kind of commitment to God.
The preacher announced the last song for the alter call, inviting everyone to stand and sing. I stood beside Annie, holding her hand and I swear I felt currents of her energy coming through our clasped hands.
She gazed at me lovingly, and continued to sing ' It Is Well With My Soul' in her beautiful soprano voice. I never knew she could sing so beautifully, but she could, her voice sounded like an angel to my ears.
I didn't sing, but enjoyed listening to her. I was disappointed when the song finished, and Mr. Miller started saying the dismissal prayer. After everyone said 'Amen' people started milling around, some leaving, some standing to talk to other members.
Annie started walking to where her mother sat, " Hi mom," She said tentatively, Mrs. Miller turned to her daughter beaming a bright smile. Annie looked a lot like her mother, she'd taken the dark hair from her, and her nice build too. Really the only thing Annie or Luke had inherited from their father was the electric blue eyes.
" Annie, I am so glad you made it." She stood up and kissed her daughter's cheek, then turned her gaze towards me. " I see you've taken well care of her, she looks better." She said smiling gratefully at me.
