Annie's POV
My body shuddered, and my head was pounding. I closed the toilet seat in my bathroom and flushed it, raising up slowly I walked weakly to the sink. My mouth tasted of pure stomach acid, and my throat burned from throwing up so much.
I looked at myself in the mirror, it was going on week two after my first treatment and I hadn't been able to hold anything down. The anti-nausea medication that Alex had prescribed wasn't working, we had been through three different kinds already, and I was beginning to feel it was hopeless.
My face looked gaunt and pale, my eyes had deep dark grey circles around them, and when I woke up yesterday I saw a small clump of hair laying on my pillow. My once fitted clothes were all baggy, and I refused to go anywhere, but to my Dr appointments.
Alex had tried getting me to come over to his place, or hang out on his boat. He told me to avoid large crowds, because the chemo had lowered my white and red blood cells. well he didn't have anything to worry about, because the only thing I could do was sleep, and throw up.
I fumbled back to my bed slowly laying down, my muscles ached and I wanted nothing more than to take a warm bath, but I was scared of falling and not about to ask for any help. I was about to fall back asleep when I heard a light knock on my bed room door.
" Come in." My voice came out in a hoarse whisper. The door opened and my mother's small figure appeared by my side.
" Still throwing up?" She asked brushing my hair from my forehead with her hand, I barley managed to nod my head yes. " You should let me call him Annie, you haven't been able to even keep water down." I closed my eyes shaking my head no stubbornly.
She sighed, " He may be your boyfriend, but he's your Dr first. Now I'm not asking your permission young lady, I'm calling him now." I raised my head up weakly.
" No please mom, I don't want to worry him." My parched throat hurt so bad, making my voice sound raspy when I talked.
" I don't care if you want to worry him or not Annie, I won't sit back and watch my only daughter die from malnutrition. And the man that loves you wouldn't want that either." I looked at her in confusion, she put her hand to her mouth when she realised she slipped up.
" What did you say?" Now I knew I wasn't dreaming, she said he loved me, but how did she know? She blushed slightly, and sat down on the edge of my bed.
" The uh, day before your treatment, when Alex carried you to the car he told you he loved you. You were so out of it he was sure you hadn't heard, so he asked me not to say anything until he could muster up the nerve to say it again.
" I didn't mean to let it slip, please don't say anything to him about this. I really like Alex, and he loves you enough to want what's best for you. That being said he can't help you unless he knows that there is a problem."
I knew it, but if that were true why hadn't he bothered to come and see me in almost a week? Some part of me thought he may not be able to stand to look at me, but he had promised to be here no matter what.
A small tear slid down my cheek, but I was much too dehydrated to actually cry. My poor mother had tried everything the past week to get me to hold something down, and it would for a few hours. I had refused to eat or drink anything though for two days now, and it was taking a toll on my weak body fast.
" I'll be back to check on you in a few, try and get some rest sweetie." She said placing a soft kiss on my head. I smiled feebly and watched her leave, I was no fool I knew she was going straight to the kitchen to call Alex. But I was much to weak to argue, as I let myself drift back into nothingness.
