Star's P.O.V.
"Ugh, Marco, do we have to do this?" I groaned, lying on my bed. It was a nice Saturday noon, you could go to the park, have a nice Saturday date,- "Star, come on, I thought you were already supportive of this. I'm finally taking the initiative to ask Jackie out! Now come on, you're singing the other half of the song." Marco scolded playfully, rolling his eyes. Nope, no going to the park, no Saturday date, just Marco and I writing a song for Jackie. I grumbled in annoyance, I wouldn't admit it, but I was jealous. The brown-haired boy started playing his guitar, as I tapped on the drawer. "I used to wanna be, living like there's only me," Marco started, strumming his guitar. I couldn't help but clap, grinning at his quirkiness. "But now I spend my time, thinking 'bout a way to get you off my mind." I rolled my eyes, smiling. He's always been thinking of a way to get her off his mind. "I used to be so tough, I never really gave enough," I snorted. What a big fat lie.
"And then you caught my eye, giving me the feeling of a lightning strike." I couldn't help but feel a tinge of jealousy at this. Marco's pretty dedicated to her.
"Look at me now, I'm falling,
I can't even talk, still stuttering
This ground of mine keeps shaking
oh oh, now!" Marco looked to me, a signal it was time for both of us to sing. He picked up his pace of strumming as I picked up my clapping.
"All I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah, is somebody to you! All I wanna be, yeah all I wanna be, is somebody to you!" We both sung in perfect sync, and I felt thrilled.
Deep down, though I knew it was for Jackie, I couldn't help but imagine what it'd be like if the song was meant for me.
"Everybody's tryin' to be a billionaire,
but every time I look at you I just don't care,
'cause all I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah," I blushed slightly, knowing that I meant that for Marco.
"Is somebody to you!" Marco finished, as his pace of strumming returned to normal. He looked at me with a trusting gaze while grinning, which turned my legs to jelly. I smiled a bit, before singing my part.
"I used to ride around, I didn't wanna settle down.." The more I sang the lyrics, the more I felt like I related to them. Oh how I wish I could sing this to Marco without facing rejection. "But now I wake each day, looking for a way that I can see your face." I smiled, at least there was one thing Jackie didn't have. Me seeing him everyday and having the time of our lives as friends.
"I've got your photograph, but baby I need more than that! I need to know your lips, nothing ever mattered to me more than this," I couldn't help but steam. It was all true. And I hated it. Marco grinned at me, his eyes twinkling, as if saying, "Good job!" I smiled back, and for some reason, I felt all my negative emotions go away.
"Look at me now, I'm falling,
I can't even talk, still stuttering
This ground of mine keeps shaking
oh oh, now!" Marco nodded, picking up his strumming once again, shifting between chords.
"All I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah, is somebody to you! All I wanna be, yeah all I wanna be, is somebody to you! Everybody's tryin' to be a billionaire, but every time I look at you I just don't care, 'cause all I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah, is somebody to you!"
Our voices rang powerfully, both with similar emotions, but to entirely different people. I started chanting, as Marco started preparing for the big finale.
"Look at me now, I'm falling I can't even talk, still stuttering.. All I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!" Marco's guitar started sounding somehow louder, sending shivers down my spine with it's powerful sound.
"All I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah Is somebody to you! All I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah Is somebody to you!
All I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah
Is somebody to you!
All I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah Is somebody to you! Everybody's trying to be a billionaire, but every time I look at you I just don't care', cause all I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah, is somebody to you!"
Marco started humming the last chords slowly instead of using his guitar, allowing me to finish softly. "'Cause all I wanna be, yeah all I ever wanna be, yeah, yeah... Is somebody to you."
We both stayed quiet for a few moments, just lying on the bed together, trying to regain our breath. You know what? Even if Jackie and Marco end up together, I want Marco to know how I feel. I turned to Marco, who was practically a few inches away from my face. I gulped.
"Hey Marco?" I called out quietly, gazing at him. He smiled lopsidedly, booping my nose. "Yeah?" This was it. Okay, Star. Not too cheesy, not too blunt.
"I.. I want.. To be somebody to you." I muttered quietly, hiding my face with a pillow. Marco was surprised at first, because I heard no response from him. But, he grabbed the pillow to reveal, my blushing red face, smiling at me.
"You already are, you know.." I looked to the side. Yeah, I'm a best friend to you.
"Yeah.. I'm a best friend to you, I know.. It's not what I mea,-" He hugged me, pulling me close which caught me off-guard.
