Back in Storybrooke, my mom used to tell me all the time about all the grand balls she went to with her mother and how excited she used to get about one day sharing the experience with a daughter of her own.

So I know how much this night means to her. Come on, she literally planned this in my honour.

So this night has to be perfect, not for the fact that it's technically my ball, but because I know that my mom has been waiting her whole life for this very evening.

It was for this reason that I sat in front of my vanity with a bouncing knee and shaking hands.

"Emma, you'll be fine. You went to the ball with Killian, he tought you how to dance. And don't forget the multiple dance lessons you had with your father." My mother said, her voice as soothing as always.

She was making final adjustments to my hair and the flowers that were placed at the back.

"I have a gift for you" she told me, a sudden excitement overtaking her. She pulled out a silver box with diamonds lining the edges. My mom slowly lifted the lid of the box to reveal a stunning tiara.

"I wore this tiara to my first ball. I know I was 10 then, but it's something I wanted you to wear to your first official ball as Princess Emma." She smiled with obvious tears building up along her water line.

"Mom, it's beautiful I love it. Thank you so much!" I stood up and gave her a tight hug. When we pulled apart she lifted the tiara and placed it on my head, being careful not to mess up my hair.

"You look amazing, Emma" my mom said, more tears building up.

It wasn't long after this that I was standing with my mom at the huge double doors above the stairs which lead to the ballroom. My mom was announced as she descended the staircase, leaving me by myself waiting to be announced.

I took several deep breathes to try and calm my nerves, though it did little to help.

"Presenting, her royal Highness, Princess Emma Swan" I heard my cue right as the doors opened.

The first thing I saw was the hundreds of people from throughout the kingdom. Every single one of them held a smile on their face.

An overwhelming feeling returned and I couldn't shake all the pressure. But there was a small part of me that felt something was going to happen tonight.

Right below me was the man I love. His smile instantly calmed me to the point where I didn't even know why I was nervous in the first place.

A guard took my hand and escorted me down the stairs but I paid no attention to him as my eyes were locked on Killian.

He was back in his pirate clothes that I remember him wearing around Storybrooke and not the leather jacket I had come to love. The red dress shirt he was wearing popped against the rest of his dark attire, especially underneath the dark black vest. The way the vest was laced up defined his body in just the right way, though some of it was hidden behind his coat. The long black leather coat fell just below the knees where his boots met. On his right hand was the typical rings he wore every day, except his pointer finger. The red and silver ring was missing leaving a rather obvious tan line where the ring has sat for over two - hundred years. I thought nothing of it and left it down to being lost on the Jolly Rodger. His hook on his left hand remained the same, but shinier almost as if it had been polished. None of this matters though, the only thing I focused on was his blue eyes that had the power to make me lose my train of thought.

The guard had dropped my arm and stopped on the current step a few before the bottom, leaving me to walk the last few by myself. When I reached the bottom, Killian was standing there. His arm was reached out waiting for me.

"Swan. You - I mean - I just- " he stuttered. He took a pause and finally said "you look beautiful, Emma." A smile overtook my face, even though he compliments me everyday, Killian still manages to make me blush.

"If only we weren't sticking to tradition" I told him, staring at his lips. It was the rule that the royal family can't have any intimate contact until the first dance of the night was over.

Regina and Robin found this difficult, but respected my parents request for the tradition. My parents on the other hand, acted as if it was normal to not kiss or hug your partner and like they had been doing it all their life.

All the while, Killian had held my arm and led me to the dance floor where the first dance of the night was about to start.

"If you wouldn't mind this time Swan, could you at least try to avoid treading on my toes" he smirked as he bowed to me, in time with the other men bowing to their partners.

"Wouldn't dream of it" I replied while curtsying. When we were both stood up he took my hand and my waist in preparation for the waltz. My hand laid gently on his shoulder and the other was pressed against the cool metal of his hook.

As the music began we moved in time with the steady melody making sure we didn't bump into another couple on the dance floor. Of course, Killian took the lead and guided me throughout the dance, as no matter how many lesson I had taken, he was still more experienced than I.

There were a couple of incidents when I took a wrong step and managed to step on Killian's foot. And although he acted as if he didn't mind I think the heel of my shoe had started to leave an indent on his poor boot.

"How long is this song?" Killian groaned, partly out of frustration because of our lack of contact, and partly because I had once again trod on his toe.

"I'm so sorry!" I cried once again. "And I don't know, but I know that in a couple second we switch partners" I told him and as the melody changed I was spun out of his grasp and into the arms of my father who had spun my mother into Killian's arms.

"Emma, you looks stunning" my dad told me as we continued to move to the sweet tune that was being played by the village orchestra.

"Thanks dad" I sighed with a smile on my face.

"Is something wrong, sweetheart?" He asked as he spun me around in a circle before I put my hand back on his shoulder and placed my other hand back in his.

"I just have a feeling that something is going to happen tonight" I told him as the song drew to a close.

"Good or bad" my dad asked as he bowed .

"I'm not sure" was what I said before I curtsied and went of to find Killian to give him the kiss we'd been waiting for since I last saw him two days ago.

I practically sprinted across the ballroom floor but taking extra caution not to trip over my own feet or my dress because how graceful could I look doing that?

On my mad dash I bumped into Henry, although I think I interrupted something between him and a girl. Definitely something to grill him about later.

It wasn't until I saw the back of Killian's head that I got truly excited.  He was speaking with Regina and from this angle both appeared to be smiling and laughing. And to my surprise, Regina embraced Killian in a hug and kisses his cheek.

I didn't give it a second thought before I ran up behind Killian and wrapped my arms tightly around his waist with my face buried in his coat. I took a deep breathe to familiarise myself once again with his intoxicating scent.

I felt him jump a little at my touch but as soon as he realised it was me he spun around so fast he could've gotten whiplash. Neither of us has the time to say anything before our lips connected in a passionate kiss that made me feel like time had stopped.

I paid no attention to the hoots and whistles coming from the dwarfs and instead focussed on my love.

"Hook. A moment, if you wouldn't mind" my dad said from behind me. My face felt cold when Killian removed his hands. Our lips disconnected slowly and my eyes fluttered open.

"Of course, your highness" he relies with a smile on his face that was obviously being used to try and sway my father. "Meet me in the gardens in fifteen minutes, Swan?"

"I won't be a second late" I told him as I kissed him one last time and went to find my son for a dance.
