David's POV

The blaring rays from the sun woke me up. In last nights anger I didn't close the curtains, and I'm assuming everyone was too scarred to enter the guest room to shut them.

Half of the search party I sent out returned last night. They'd been gone for weeks, so when they came back I'd assumed they had some sort of information.

Instead of knowledge on my daughter's whereabouts, I get nothing. Nothing but four dead soldiers.

Needless to say, last night was full of anger. I tossed the tables, I threw the chairs. Candle sticks hit the walls.

Amidst my fury I hadn't noticed Snow had snuck up to our room. I hadn't the heart to wake her with my loud fits of outrage.

I'd been the one to hold this family together ever since Emma's disappearance. Everyone else dealt with their emotions in their own way - be it with rage, depression, determination.

But me? I comforted everyone who felt the loss of Emma's presence. I held myself together for so long, for my kingdom.

For my family.

I was the shoulder to lean on. I suppressed my wife's tears. I soothed Neal's cries. I calmed Killian's anger.

But a man can only take so much.

All of the pressure to be 'the strong one' had built up over the last months. Add that to the devastating news I received last night, I guess I couldn't take any more.

I threw the covers off my body and quickly got dressed. After I was dressed I made my way to the dining hall where my family sat.

Snow sat at the head of the table, feeding Neal with one hand and holding the crumpled bit of paper with the other.

"Snow? You alright?" I pulled out the chair next to her and sat down.

"No. But I haven't been for a while." She sighed.

"I'm sorry about last night." I said, taking her hand in my own and giving it a light squeeze. She slowly lifted her head and looked at me.

"It's alright, I get it." That was all she said before the doors flew open. Regina and Robin walked in.

Regina's hand was in the air, gripping one of my soldiers by the throat with her magic. He was suspended in the air, his hands clinging to his neck in an attempt to breathe.

"Regina! What the hell are you doing!" I yelled as I stood from my seat at the table. Snow looked up and quickly stood.

"This coward knows something! He's keeping something a secret and I'm going to find out what it is." She growled, her hand clenching tighter into a fist.

"Well if you kill him then we'll never know!" Snow yelled.

Regina quickly dropped her hand and my soldier fell to the ground, hands still holding his throat tightly.

I stalked over to him and grabbed him by the collar, pulling him to his feet. I pushed him against the wall, pinning him there by the throat.

"What the hell do you know?" I growled at him. My teeth clenched and eyes wide, I saw fear in his eyes.

"I don't know anything!" He pleaded. I quickly dropped him harshly to the ground and in an instant I had my sword to his throat while he laid on the floor.

"Tell me what you know. Right now. Or you punishment will be worse than death." I seethed slowly.

He avoided eye contact so I slowly pushed my sword into his chest, drawing the slightest amount of blood.

"Okay! Okay! I'll tell you what I know! Please stop!" He begged. I pulled my sword out and he took a deep breathe.

"When I was out with the other men, we searched a few ports. We got to the port of Northmill and went aboard all the ships after we got the information about it being pirates who took the princess. The captain already had a line of defence waiting. There was a battle, we lost two men." He lowered his head and didn't look at anyone.

"This still doesn't explain what you know about Emma!" I yelled raising my sword again.

"I'm getting there!" He pleaded. I dropped my sword and nodded my head. "I was not fortunate enough to escape and I was captured. For two days I was held in the brig with another prisoner. I heard  conversations, voices. On the morning of the third day I was brought back up on deck. Somebody there had magic, they wiped half my memory so I wouldn't remember who I saw." He finished, taking a deep breath.

"What does that mean then, Mathew?" Snow asked, placing her hand on my arm, stopping me from driving my sword through his chest.

"I think he was holding the princess. I remember they talked about a trade off of ransoms, it was to happen in a fortnight. At the village of Sandow. That's all I can remember. I swear he wiped the rest!" He pleaded. I put my sword back in its sheath and turned to my wife.

"See, I told you we'd find something." I gave her a small smile and she returned it before wrapping her arms around me and giving me a hug.

I kissed her forehead and watched as her small smile grew into a grin.

"We're gonna get our daughter back" Snow muttered into my chest.
