Killian's POV
I jolted awake in my bed onboard the Jolly Rodger. The steady swaying of the ship soothed me, to some extent, as I regained my breathe.
It was a dream.
Suddenly, three of my crew came running into my quarters, barely fitting through the door as they had tried to enter all at once.
"Captain! What's wrong?" Buckholts exclaimed. "We heard you screaming in your sleep."
"I'm fine. Go back to your bunks, lads" I told them, dismissing them with my right hand. They all nodded their heads before walking calmly back through the door, making sure to close it on their way out.
It was that damn dream. Again.
It was like a continuous loop, playing over and over again. Every night it appeared and no matter how hard I tried to change the events, it ended the same.
By the end of the dream, I had told Emma she meant nothing to me and she didn't deserve happiness. After everything I say to her, I was laying next to Emma's body after I had just crushed her heart. I hadn't cared that I was killing the woman I love. And after I realised what I've done and try to bring her back to me. It's too late.
And every morning I wake up, all I can think about is what if I can't control myself? What if one day the darkness takes over me again and I hurt the people I love.
I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I let myself be controlled with the lingering side effects of being the dark one.
That is my every consuming thought for the past two months.
And for the two months I've been without Emma, I've thought of every way to keep the temptation of the darkness at bay.
There was a knock at my door, pulling me from my thoughts.
"Yes?" I called, finally sitting up in my bed.
"Cap'n, the crew and I - well we were wondering if we were actually setting sail at one point. N-n-not to pressure you or anything sir, but we're all getting antsy to return to the sea" Smee said, peering his head around the small opening he had made with the door.
"I've told you all this last week and I'll bloody well tell you again. I'm the captain of this ship, and I let you all know when its time to leave port. And if any of you have a problem with that then you can walk the damn plank" I shouted at my first mate.
Fear struck on his face, his eyes widening and his head nodding quickly.
"Yes captain." He said quickly before turned around and walking away, closing the door.
As soon as I was alone, I threw the covers from my body and stood from my bed. The air was bitter this morning, biting at my bare chest. While I adapted to the harsh sea air I went through my closet.
As I was scanning the shirts and vests, I came across something that pulled on my heart.
It was the red dress shirt I had worn to the Royal ball. The shirt I was wearing the last time I saw Emma.
Quickly, I ripped it from the hanger and held it in my tightly in my right hand. For a moment I thought I was grasping onto false hope but the shirt smelt of her. It probably rubbed off when we danced.
I lifted the shirt to my face, burring it into the fabric. I let a few tears slide down my cheeks, but as soon as the third one fell I wiped them away quickly.
I didn't need the crew pitying me.
I hurriedly finished getting ready before gently putting the dress shirt away. I closed the closet doors and turned away, giving myself another moment to compose myself.I picked my hook up from my desk and held it tightly in my hand.
After a few minutes I was finally up on deck with the crew. Many weren't up yet as they were eating their breakfast. I looked around at my awake crew and saw them already cleaning my ship.
"Good job men" I praised them. They all stopped what the were doing and turned to face me. "I'm going out for the day and when I return I expect this ship to be looking brand new. I want to see my reflection on these boards. Is that understood?"
"Yes cap'n!" They all replied in unison. I nodded at them, signalling for them to return to their work before clicking my hook into place.
I did one final check on my men, making sure that everyone was working before walking down the steps and onto the docks.
After climbing on a borrowed horse, I tapped it's side with my heel and shook the reins. The horse started trotting before taking off into a gallop.
It wasn't long before I reached the destination of Snow White and Prince Charming's castle.
They had to know my plan.
I led the horse into the stable before walking up to the front gates. The guards recognised me and allowed me passage into to castle.
"Killian. What a nice surprise, we haven't seen you in weeks!" David said as I walked into the dining hall where the family was eating breakfast. I looked around and noticed just how many people were there.
Henry, Regina, Robin, Roland and Zelena had all come over from Regina's castle. The King and queen sat at the head of the table with their son next to his mother. Henry paid attention only to his food and didn't look up when I entered the dining hall.
"Aye, I had to speak to you and you wife." I stated bluntly. David nodded his head and stood from his chair. He ruffled Roland's hair before walking towards me.
Slowly, Snow did the same. She took longer than her husband to push her chair out and walk towards me. Of course, she still had depression clear on her face.
Other than me, Snow had been the one to take Emma's absence the hardest.
As the three of us walked into the empty hallway, I saw Charming softly take his wife's hand and squeeze it reassuringly. I admire David's persistence, he has done nothing but hold this family together whilst others sunk into pits of depression.
"Hook? Are you alright? You don't look great." Charming asked, his voice full of concern.
"Aye, your highness. I haven't been sleeping well. But that's not why I'm here."
"What did you want to talk to us about?" David asked.
"I just wanted to let you know that after today, you won't have to worry about me" I told them.
Then I realised how it sounded.
"Not like that. What I mean is, the day the crocodile spoke about is here. And I know what he meant. It'll be taken care of."
Snow seemed slightly less distracted after she heard my words.
"What are you saying, Killian?" She asked. It's the most she's spoken in weeks, and as glad as I am that she's talking finally I just hate for it to be under these circumstances.
"In a few hours, you two will no longer have the burden of dealing with this pirate. It'll be like we never met. Goodbye, your majesties."
I shook David's hand and kissed Snow's cheek before bowing in front of them and leaving.
I have to forget.
