Education isn't about education these days. It's about morphing a young persons mind to think a certain way or to be a certain way. Teachers don't care about their students as much as they used to and the boards of education in each district don't do anything about in school problems. One of my best friends is in English right now and we all know that's one of the most difficult subjects. And her teacher isn't helping it to make it easier on her she's making it more difficult. She wants the paper a certain size, only to write in certain colours, your name has to be in a certain place on the sheet and if you write in pencil she'll rip up your work and give you a 0 with no second chances. To make it even worse she's trying to make everyone's writing style like hers and any good English teacher and writer knows that everyone has their own writing preferences and style.
There's this other English teacher who I had in grade 10 who didn't teach me anything. I don't know a lot of literacy devices that I'm supposed to know by this age because I wasn't properly educated. When we had this government test to pass that year, over half the people in my age group failed. Why? Because they all weren't properly educated. We were 'educated' by going to assembles every other day for an hour to try to remember how much we needed to pass. These kids didn't care about the questions asked, all they cared about was passing.
Education has become about passing, not about learning anything. Everyone's trying to pass because if we don't, we won't get anywhere in our lives and that has been drilled into my brain personally since I was a little girl.
One last teacher, a science teacher, not one of my best subjects or one of my favourites either. I was never in his class and I'm grateful for that because of all the bad stories I heard about him. He made racists comments to my best friend, creeped the girls out by looking down their tops or whispering in their ears.
What did my school board decide to do? They suspended him for a semester and then the next semester he was back.
I don't care if he is the best science teacher on the planet, get him out of here. If there's all these creepy accusations and people are uncomfortable in school because of this one person, get rid of him because he's serving no purpose.
Instead what my school does is harass students because of where they sit and who they hang out with in their spare time. There's this authoritative figure at my school who has taken it upon herself to talk to my friends and I to try and make us moves spots. She has bigger problems like teachers not doing their jobs, pedophile teachers and kids skipping class or not wearing their uniform.
So if I don't succeed in what I want to do with my life. It isn't my fault because my education was disrupted by teachers who tried to change who I am, ones who don't do their jobs and one who has bigger problems but she's chosen to harass my friends and I.
