The Movement

Sexual harassment and rape is at an ultimate peek in our society. With the reports coming out of Hollywood on a daily basis and multiple accounts of the president being accused of such horrendous activities; I'm afraid it's reaching an epidemic.

The media is such a huge part of our lives, these events are affecting the people who watch.

There is a particular boy group in my school that live for catcalling, following girls to the washroom and making rude comments as we walk by. As a graduating student this year, I've become accustomed to trying my best to avoid the section of the hallway or ignore them completely. That's we're supposed to do, ignore it and move on.

I'm here to tell you that's total bullshit. We, as a population shouldn't have to deal with this at all.

We shouldn't have to walk down the certain part of the hallway and be ashamed of who I am. I shouldn't have to try and make myself smaller so hopefully, I'll go unnoticed by them. I shouldn't have to plan alternate routes in my head to try and avoid these boys. I shouldn't have to make sexual assault posters and plaster them around the school when I should be studying for a upcoming assignment I have. I shouldn't have to have this conversation or be writing this at all.

But atlas I am because no one is doing anything about it.

The teachers are frustrated. There's been multiple incidents where these certain individuals have been reported and nothing has been done. On top of all these incidents there has been more incidents and administration has given only a temporary solution. They're being silenced.

I cannot tell you how many times I've tried to run events at school or start things at school and I've been silenced. I cannot tell you how many times I've let people trample over me and I'm not going to let it happen anymore.

I'm going to stand up because I'm tired of taking people's shit. I will defy administration if I have to, if it'll solve the problem.
