In the weeks that followed, Jason's pregnancy started to progress more and more with each passing day. It didn't take long before he felt the baby's first kick and asked if I wanted to feel it too. I wasn't going to pass up the chance on being able to witness the first of my offspring before they were brought into this unstable world of ours. I dropped to my knees beside the couch as Jason laid down on his back and placed my hand on his stomach. From the moment I felt that first little bump against my palm, my plans for a loving family were finally starting to take shape. I mean, who knew that one day the Devil himself would eventually turn out to be a family man.

"Now I can believe that this is all really happening," I said, as I placed a kiss on his stomach.

"Yeah, it is. We're finally going to start bringing a new life into this world. I wonder what the baby is going to look like."

I smirked. "Well, with anything luck it could turn out like me."

"And what would that entail, exactly?"

"Everything! From my charm, to my good looks, to my unparallel ability to satisfy anyone and everyone."

Jason barked out a laugh. "You are so full of shit."

"You never know though, it might turn out to be true. Have you thought of any names yet?"

"Yes and no. But I really haven't set anything in concrete just yet, I want to be surprised."

"Fair enough. Anyways, we need to get you ready."

"For what?"

"I took the liberty of scheduling you a doctor's appointment a few days ago. I figured it's time for another check up."

"Alright. Help me up first and I'll go and get dressed."

An hour later we arrived at Dr. Claudia Rizzoli's office. I did all the talking, especially in Italian as well as filling out the paperwork before handing it back to the clerk behind the desk. Jason sat with his back against the wall as he watched a small group of children play with some toys that had been provided for them by the staff. A young girl, barely four years old and the only one in a group with four boys was playing with a puzzle game when a boy came over and messed up all the pieces. Her blonde hair fell in front of her face as she sniffled, but then her eyes looked up at Jason and she smiled as he did the same.

The two of them shared a quiet moment without saying a word by the time the door across the way opened and a female nurse called out Jason's name. I helped him up slowly and walked down the hallway until we came to a room just like the one we were in before. Than after another ten minutes of waiting, Dr. Rizzoli graced us with her presence.

"Ciao, benvenuto."

"Parli inglese?"

"Yes. And only a little. But I will do what I can."

"Grazie."

"Dr. Rizzoli, as I'm sure you're well aware by now," Jason said from the table. "I am in fact pregnant."

"Yes, of course. I've taken the liberty of reading your file on the way over. And I must say, this is one for the history books. Tell me, how are things progressing since your last ultrasound? Any pain or discomfort?"

"No. Not at all. I feel fine."

"Good. Well, let's get you to lie down on your back so we can begin."

I stood by his side as I watched Dr. Rizzoli snap on a pair of latex gloves and fire up the machine. She grabbed a bottle of gel and squirted it onto Jason's stomach as he jumped and mentioned that it was cold. As she grabbed a probe and started smearing the gel into a paste, her free hand typed away at the computer as we all heard the first few seconds of our baby's heartbeat.
