"Alright. Tonight's the night." Alice said excitedly.
"Huh, what?" Sky yawned, Alice had just waken her up in the middle of the night on a cold rainy day in October.
"Remember our plan. To go investigate the school at night! Tonight's the perfect night for that!" Alice said excitedly.
Sky rubbed her eyes,"Oh yeah our plan." She said sleepily, not really comprehending in full,"WAIT RIGHT NOW!? TONIGHT!?"
"Yep. I've already packed our stuff for it too. And my handy dandy map can get us there!" Alice said.
"But, I figured we'd plan out when together." Sky said.
"Oh, come on. There won't be another night like this in months. The atmosphere is perfect. You aren't going to chicken out now, are you?" Alice said.
"Well, it's just, I was just sleeping." Sky said,"And now all of the sudden I'm going on an adventure? It's so sudden."
Alice pulled on her cheek,"I know, but, this was one of your dreams, remember? It's one of the things I'm here to help you accomplish. I'm sure it'll make you happy if we do it."
Hearing that, Sky finally gave in,"You're right. I'll go. It will be exciting, although a bit scary I'm sure."
"Well, we can get through it together." Alice said, and she flew over to her light switch and turned on the lights.
Sky immediately covered her eyes with her arms,"ARG! Don't blind me."
Alice laughed,"Whoopsie-daisy."
Sky looked down at what Alice had prepared. A backpack with supplies, an umbrella, and next to it, Sky's Halloween costume, which was a detective outfit.
"Wait, you want me to wear that? It's for Halloween, you know." Sky said.
"We're investigating a school at night. I think being a detective for the occasion sounds perfect!" Alice said.
Hearing that Sky nodded,"It might things more fun, I guess."A few moments later,"Detective Sky Endo is on the case! Although I'm not quite sure what case it is."
Alice was looking at her map, humming slightly,"I'm glad school is so close to our house. Otherwise this would never be possible."
"Argh." Sky said, getting nervous over that she would actually be sneaking around school at night.
"Come on, we can do this." Alice said,"Don't use the last chance emergency exit."
"Uh, y-yeah." Sky's mind was fluttering with worse possible scenarios, what if there was a guard or something and she got caught! Still, she walked out of her room and was going to leave when somebody else spoke from behind.
"Hey." Aiko said, causing Sky to jump.
"Ahh! You're awake too!" Sky turned to face her.
"How could I not be, you certainly weren't quiet." Aiko joked. She was still in her pajamas.
"Oh, sorry." Sky said, rubbing the back of her head nervously.
Suddenly, Alice charged at Aiko,"YOU WON'T STOP US!!!" She had picked up a piece of cardboard that she appeared to fashion as a weapon, and attempted to whack Aiko's face with it,"Sky, you get out of here and go on your adventure, I'll hold her off!" She said, raising her own death flag.
Aiko chuckled,"You do realize I'm not here to try to stop you, right?"
"PWEH! Run Sky run!" Alice continued to attack, not listening.
"Sky, just go on your adventure. I'll make sure Mom and Dad don't figure anything out worst case scenario." Aiko said,"Plus, enough whacks with this and it might start to hurt.
Sky laughed a bit,"Thanks Sis." She could tell Aiko was supporting her.
"You need to run!" Alice continued her dramatics.
"Alright, alright." Sky 'ran' outside the house, then waited for Alice to follow.
"Looks like we're safe out here." Alice said, panting as she flew to Sky.
"Were you listening to anything Aiko said?" Sky asked, smiling.
"Hmmmm, not really. She just surprised you, and I thought she might be here to stop us, so I just acted." Alice admitted,"Still, it's better than not acting. It made the whole thing kinda funny for you too, so positives everywhere."
"Well, let's do this." Sky said,"The school awaits, I suppose!"They arrived at the school a few minutes later, it was only a short walk from their house. The front entrance was locked.
"Don't worry about it." Alice said,"I'll sneak inside and get you in." She flew over the gate, and soon after, Sky was inside the school grounds. It might have been illegal, and Sky certainly was slightly scared. But there was also this sense of thrill, it really made it seem like an adventure.
Most of the school was in one large indoor building, so getting into that was the second challenge.
"Maybe a window will be unlocked?" Sky thinks aloud,"We have to get in somehow, after all. It would be too disappointing otherwise."
"Hmmm, I'll look around." Alice flew around the school, eventually arriving at the window to Sky's own class, which happened to be unlocked,"A-ha! I'll find a way to get you inside too!" She called out to Sky.
Sky was shivering slightly, both from the cold and her own nervousness. She also realized she didn't have anything to look for. Would it really be any different from walking through school during the day?
Suddenly, the front door burst open, bringing a gust of wind out with it to hit Sky,"Alright, now we can go in." Alice said happily, as she stood in the doorway.
Heading inside, Sky saw for the first time how dark it was. "Eep!" She let out a light squeak,"I thought I heard something."
"It was probably just the door closing." Alice said,"Come on, it's not like there could be rats here. And we're certainly alone. It is late, after all."
"That's not helping." Sky said, looking down,"Still, I can do this."
As she walked through the first floor, Sky kept hearing things,"Are you making those noises Alice? Is this all some kind of plan to s-scare me?" She asked, growing a bit more scared.
"No, I-it's not me!" Alice said, growing a bit scared as well,"But, I think I heard noises when I was flying through the higher floors as well, if I remember."
"Eep! What do you think it could mean?" Sky said.
"I don't know. Maybe we should turn back?" Alice said, phrasing it as a question to Sky.
"Hmmmmm," Sky thought it through. Sure she was scared, but, she'd wanted this kind of. It made it seem less boring. Sky nodded,"There's no way a detective can quit a case like this so early!" She said.
Alice laughed,"Alright then! Let's figure this thing out."As they investigated, they realized that the sounds they heard on the first floor were all coming in through vents and other accesses to other floors. There was definitely something going on upstairs, was the conclusion they came to. Eventually, they narrowed it down to the 3rd grade classroom number 13.
"Well, I think it's gotta be this one." Alice said,"This is where everything's led to.
Faint sounds could be heard coming from inside. Sky was a bit afraid. She had no idea what might lie in wait for her behind that door. Everything that happened made her a bit scared, but also a bit excited. This was turning out to be a real adventure!
