It’s been a week since the interview, Ashton and I are doing well and the kids have gotten used to the idea of him being their dad. They don’t call him ‘Daddy’ though, which is fine by him.

“I was thinking we should go to the park with the kids today,” Ashton suggests as I flip over a pancake.

“We haven’t been to the park in so long,” I smile at the thought of Ashton, Brynlee, Bentley and I all going to the park. Swinging on swings, sliding down the slides, playing on the teeter-totter, it all will be so knew.

“Then we shall go,” Ashton smiles, “I’ll go wake up the kids,” he says walking up the stairs. We haven’t gone in public very much since the interview, which I’m okay with. I don’t want the kids in the spotlight, and neither does Ashton. I put some food on four plates and set them on the table just as Ashton walks in carrying both of them, setting them down in their chairs.

“You guys want to go to the park later?” I ask them putting some eggs in my mouth. They nod tiredly and I giggle at them.

---

“Let’s go to the park!” I say turning off the telly and picking up a few toys. Brynlee and Bentley run down the stairs and we all make the short walk to the park.

“Mommy! I want to go on the slide!” Bentley yelled, I nodded and the twins and Ashton ran off to the slide, I sat on a park bench nearby. I close my eyes breathing in deeply, soaking up the sun.

“Aria?” Someone says tapping my shoulder. I open my eyes, Ella stood before me, her eyeliner and mascara dripping down her face, her hair was in a mess she looked like a disaster. I stood up and just wrapped my arms around her and let her cry. I rubbed her back soothingly while shushing her, hoping to calm her down.

Her crying eventually slowed and I pulled back looking at her.

“What happened?” I asked her

“My-my m-mom kicked m-me ou-out,” she stutters

“OH my god…”I say, not knowing what else to say, her mom seemed so nice when we met her at the store, now here’s Ella saying her mom kicked her out.

“Why? Why on earth would she kick you out?” I say, tears blurring my vision. She begins to cry harder, I pull her into a hug, not knowing what else to do.

“Do you want to go get ice cream?” I ask her she pulls back and wipes her eyes, and her cheeks trying to get rid of the makeup that has littered her beautiful face. She gives me a smile and nods

“Let’s go tell Ashton,” I tell her, we walk to the slide and wait until he catches Bentley and notices us

“Hey, babe, oh, Ella right?” He asks and she nods, his eyes change once he looks to her face, noticing she’s been crying. She puts her face between his hands and stares at her.

“What’s wrong, love?” He asks she shakes her head, a single tear falling down her cheek again.

“Ashton, we’re gonna go get some girl time. We’ll be back soon, babe,” I say and he nods, he opens his arms and I walk into them his minty smell engulfing me

“What happened?” He whispers in my ear.

“Tell you later,” I say and he nods kissing my forehead.

“Let’s go, Ella,” I say smiling. She gives a week smile and we walk in silence to the ice cream shop across the street.

“Order whatever you want,” I say we both get Cookies ‘N Cream with strawberries on top and sit down at a booth in the very back.

“So you want to tell me what’s going on, El?” I say, she pokes at her ice cream, not looking up at me. It doesn’t seem as if this will be easy to get this out of her.

“I had a baby at 15 it can’t be much worse than that, El, c’mon. Pleaseeee! I promise whatever it is I’ll help you. I promised you could talk to me at whatever time of day or night, you really can talk to me, El.” I say she looks up at me, tears glossing her eyes again.

“You really want to know?” El asks. It can’t be that bad can it? I mean, it really can’t be that bad. She’s 14 for goodness sakes! What could really happen to a fourteen year old that would want to make her mom kick her out of the house.

“Yeah, of course. Listen, if you’re scared about telling me, don’t be. I won’t judge you or anything, I promise, Ella. You already feel like a sister to me, I just want to know what’s going on.” I say taking a bite of my ice cream, which resulted in a spoonful of strawberries, not much ice cream.

“I’m pregnant,”
