18: Phase Two; Scary Movies

“Who’s here for Ella Dawson?” The doctor says walking into the waiting room, Ashton, Luke, Michael, Calum and I all stand up.

“We all are, Doctor,” I say

“Well, it’s nothing bad; we found a large amount of ibuprofen in her system which can cause stomach ulcers. When these ulcers are irritated by say, vomiting, they act up and cause blood to be in the vomit. We can either go in and burn away the ulcer or we can use Protonix, which will take care of it. Since she’s pregnant, although only a few weeks, it could be harmful to go in and burn it away, I’ve written a prescription and I’ll give it to you after we are done with the paperwork,” he says, “Any questions?” He asks looking around at all of us, all of us shaking our head.

“Can the medication be harmful to her if she’s pregnant?” Luke asks which is surprising. Luke barely knows her, maybe he’s just looking out for her.

“It can be if she’s farther along, we caught the ulcer early enough it should only take the first bottle. If she were breast feeding, though, that would be different. The Protonix can pass into the milk and thus harming the baby. But for how far along she is, which is only a few weeks, she’ll be okay,” he smiles and I thank him following him to her room. There Ella lies in a hospital bed, her hair tangled and messy, but still looking pretty good.

“Hey, El, how you doing?” I ask her and she smiles as if nothing is wrong.

“Good actually,” she replies smiling, “I actually feel really good, um, oh, hey,” Ella says looking at the rest of the boys

“Hey,” they all say synchronized, Luke smiles and looks at the ground, and Ella averts her gaze. Something’s going on between those two…

“Here’s her paperwork, she’ll just have to change and then she can leave,” the nurse says, handing me her prescription and such. Ella climbs out of bed grabbing her clothes off of the bed and heading to the bathroom.

“Wow, Luke,” Calum says elbowing Luke in the side

“Shut up, Cal,” Luke says glaring at him

“What are you guys talking about?” I ask looking between the two.

“Lukeys gotta crush on Ella!” Calum cheers

“Aww!” I laugh and Luke blushes mumbling curse words under his breath and then walking out of the room. We all burst out laughing

“What’s so funny?” Ella asks walking out of the bathroom, wearing the skinny jeans, VANS and large sweater she was wearing before we came here.

“Nothing,” I smile at her trying not to laugh.

“Whatever,” she says jokingly, “we got to go to the store and pick up this prescription,” I say walking out of the room, everyone following. Luke was out in the waiting room, and joined our group as we passed by.

“Why did you leave?” I hear Ella ask quietly from behind me

“Erm-I-I don’t know,” Luke answers

“Hey, Aria?” Luke asks me walking in the kitchen where I was cooking dinner, everyone else was watching a movie, and the kids were upstairs asleep. We’d dropped them off quickly at Rian’s house when we got the news, and then they fell asleep there.

“Hmm?” I continue chopping vegetables

“So, as you probably already know, I guess I might like Ella, a teeny tiny bit...” he says trailing off.

“Yeah, I kind of figured that part,” I laugh and he joins me. I finish chopping the tomato, putting it in the salad and the dirty utensils in the sink then turning to face Luke, who was rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

“Well, I don’t know how I can like someone that fast, I mean she-how old is she?” Luke asks leaning against the counter. I put my hands against the edge of the cool granite counter top lifting myself out.

“She’s 14 right now, but I’m pretty sure she’ll be turning 15 soon,” I answer honestly. I think I remember seeing her birthday on her medical reports, which if I read them correctly, should be in a couple weeks.

“Well, o-okay,” Luke stutters and starts to leave

“Luke, what’s going on? You’re obviously nervous about something,” I point out and he nods

“Who’s nervous?” Ella asks walking into the kitchen grabbing a piece of tomato out of the salad.

“Hey! That’s for dinner!” I scold her she rolls her eyes at me and I roll them back.

“So who’s nervous?” She pushes for an answer, Luke mumbles an excuse to leave and Ella looks down at her feet, disappointed.

“What’s up with you?” I ask hopping off the counter

“Well, I think I might like Luke…but don’t tell him! I don’t know if I do or not. It’s just he’s so cute and he’s always been my favorite in the band anyway, and he’s close to my age, and, Aria, he’s only 16 and I’m turning 15 in a couple of weeks, so it’s not a huge age difference, and…” She trails off

“Why don’t you give it a few weeks, you just met him, El, we can start having them over more often and everything, we can do something where you and Luke can be set up together and then you can tell me how it goes, okay? Just give it a bit, don’t rush into anything,” I tell her and she nods

“Luke!” I yell, “phase one, is a go,” I say winking at her. Luke walks in the kitchen

“Yeah, Aria?” He says shoving both of his hands into his pockets

“You and Ella set the table since you guys are the youngest,” I smile at them and they groan but do it anyway.

I walk into my room to change into sweats when I hear a knock at my door

“One second!” I say slipping on some grey sweats quickly, I open the door and Ella stands there smiling

“What’s up?” I ask her turning around and going into the bathroom, her following me, I wash my face, getting rid of that day’s makeup.

“So phase one was setting the table with him, and nothing happened, what’s phase two?” She asks I turn around throwing my wash rag into the dirty clothes bin.

“Phase Two; Scary Movies,”
