Tyler's POV

I felt like an idiot too as I watched Luna calm Nyx down. I knew what it was like to lose my mother and how the slightest mention used to set me off. As I looked at them helplessly I noticed how motherly Luna looked holding Nyx in her arms. I also noticed how grown up she seemed.

Not physically per se but emotionally. She had lost her mom now too and she had seen a lot in the last couple of weeks we had been together. It was almost scary how much we had both grown up.

Suddenly Nyx’s laugh rang out and I snapped my attention back to the two girls. Nyx was laughing and Luna had a mischievous look in her eyes. She laughed too when she saw my confused look before picking up Nyx.

“We should keep going.” She says and I smile before standing up to join her. I kissed her lightly as I stole Nyx from her arms and set her on my shoulders. Nyx giggled and wrapped her legs loosely around my neck.

“You’re right we should.” I say and continue on, one arm wrapped around Luna’s waist. “Nyx do you know how far the next safe place is?”

“It’s supposed to be a day journey from one safe place to the next and we were one of them. We ran a little so I don’t know how close we are.”

“Should we approach it by night fall?”

“I think so.” Nyx says and I nod.

“Thanks Tyler.” Luna whispers suddenly in my ear.

“For what?” I ask.

“Everything.” She says and kisses me lightly on the cheek. I smile and pull her tighter to me.

“It’s what I do.”

“Your Majesty.” Nyx says and I see Luna’s shoulders slump. I know she’s always hated the official titles and Nyx is too small to have to say them. I ignore her, pretending not to hear her. “Your Majesty.” She says again tapping me lightly on the arm. I can see the questioning look from Luna and I just wink at her before ignoring Nyx again

She humphs before trying Luna.

“Your Highness.” She says but Luna does the same as I do, understanding what I’m doing.

“Did you hear something Tyler?” She asks and I cock my head to the side as if listening to something.

“No, did you?”

“I thought so but I guess not.” She says and I hear Nyx groan in frustration.

“Luna, Tyler.” Nyx says and I smile.

“Yes Nyx?” I ask, tilting my head back to look at her. She rolls her eyes and crosses her arms. She reminds me of what a little Luna might have looked, minus the brown hair and green eyes.

“Did you need something?” Luna asks.

“What is going to happen to everyone back there?” She asks and I frown and look at Luna. She looks worried about the question and how to answer it.

“I don’t know Nyx.” She says. “I honestly don’t.”

“A lot of things could happen, Nyx. Just try not to think about it.”

“Why is that man bad?” She asks and I raise an eyebrow at Luna.

“Do you always ask so many questions?” Luna asks.

“Yes. Mom says it’s a bad thing. She says I won’t like the answers sometimes. She also says that asking questions can lead to bad things happening.”
