Zak and I rushed to the library, only to come face to face with another crowd in front of my home.
My mother peering through the window, concern etched into her features.
People murmured things between each other and others shouted at her.
I pushed through the crowd, Zak following closely behind, the rest of my new pack who tagged along, slowly falling in behind him from the crowd.
“What’s going on?” I sneered, grabbing hold of Liam’s shoulder upon passing him by near the front.
“People are disappearing again. And the only things left behind are notes with words messily written on them.”
“They’re not just words Liam…” I breathed, pausing, “They’re riddles.”
“For what?”
“This game whoever’s playing.”
“So people rioting in front of your home is a game to them?”
“No. I’m guessing this riddler is using us as pawns, sacrificing us for the bigger picture...”
“How do you know this?”
“What am I good at, Liam?”
“Ass kicking, literally manipulating everything, motherhood, friendship, sarcasm... There’s a lot... Oh and let’s not forget you’re good at forgetting your best friend’s birthday.” He chuckled.
“Hey!” I exclaimed, smacking him against the shoulder. “That’s unfair! But anyway... Besides all those things, what left you scratching your head and losing bets?”
“Games...”
“Exactly.” I smirked, opening the front door and entering, leaving the door open for the rest to follow.
Liam's Point Of View
Our Alpha was fading, falling; at a pace so fast but in a manner so gracefully as he watched his only heir step to the plate and bat the ball right out of the park.
She was fierce and cunning yet so graceful and just as she took out each single player of her opposing team.
But I wondered if this opponent was one she could beat.
She stood at the front of the crowd after an hour of discussing her father’s condition with Sol.
Her voice boomed through the air, overpowering all others as she called for silence.
Each member of our pack stared up at her, admiration and pride filling their eyes as they looked at their future.
Our future.
She spoke in grace, her voice filled with promise and power.
Members stepped forward from the crowd. Five, to be exact... Each holding up a note.
“They’re like the one I found!” Zak whispered in shock.
Lexi stared at them, a flash of horror covering her face before confidence took its place.
But that couldn’t stop our pack from questioning her.
People started shouting once more.
Their threats and accusations aimed at Lexi.Something a Beta could not watch without wanting blood.
“Enough!” I roared, instantly stopping the vile words being spat at her “your families have been taken and we are working on something to find and return every single one safely! Each second you waste shouting shit at your Alpha is a second that could cost a life. Now shut up, leave your notes and fuck off back to work!” I snapped, pausing. “Thank you!” I grunted, turning around and heading inside.
