Kat's POV

And here I was again, running, running up the stairs, ignoring the lift because I was gonna be fucking late again, fuck I really needed to sort my alarm out. Or my body, the fact that I was now on morning shift might have something to do with it, a week of nights, followed by a week of mornings just wasn't going down to well.

I ran in, throwing my bag into my locker, slamming it shut and running to the desk. Everyone looked up as I approached.

"Sorry." I huffed, swearing they all must be sick of me apologising by now.

"It's fine." Alena, the girl who was giving handover from night shift said. "It's all pretty quiet anyway."

"Okay good." I said looking around for a pen and smiling at Dani.

That was one good thing about today, Dani was on a morning as well. We hadn't worked together since last week, and because we'd been on opposing shift's we hadn't even talked. I missed her and I just knew Maria was keeping us separated on purpose, the jealous bitch.

I stood there attempting to take notes as Alena finished handover and she was right, it was dead fucking quiet in here right now.

"So anyway." Alena said, smiling widely because she was going home. "Have a great day."

I smiled while the other's gathered their crap and then I grabbed the file's, looking at them.

"So." Dani said sidling up to me. "Fancy meeting you here."

"Yeah I know." I laughed. "Maria must have fucked up the roster."

She nodded laughing. "So anyway." She told me. "We need to talk, I have something to tell you."

I glanced around, the place was dead silent. "Well spill then." I told her. "And we're going for a drink this afternoon." I needed some Dani time.

"You bet we are." She said. "So anyway..........." And as is typical with our job, the door's burst open, Lillian sticking her head in.

"Head's up ladies." She called. "Double MVA, ETA 3 minutes."

"I guess I'll tell you on our break." Dani said and we both rushed off, getting things ready.

As the MVA's rolled in I wondered about that break, and at this moment in time a break looked very unlikely.

As the morning wore on the casualties just kept on rolling in, it would seem after a little bit of rain everyone decided to drive like a dick head.

Finally, almost three quarters of the way through my shift there was finally a lull in people coming in. I saw an opportunity and I was taking it.

"I need coffee." I muttered to Marika, who I was currently cleaning a cubicle with, the last person had been a bleeder.

"Yes go." She mumbled and god, we were all worn out.

I walked out, looking for Dani. I hadn't really laid eye's on her since the shift started, but it was okay, we were going for a drink this afternoon and that sounded fantastic to me right about now.

I walked out and straight to the cafeteria, grabbing a coffee and then I walked outside, I just needed a little fresh air right now.

"There you are." Dani called, walking out, clutching her own coffee.

"God what a morning." I moaned as she sat down on the grass next to me.

"Yeah it's been a little hellish." She said smiling, glancing at her phone.

A little hellish was an understatement, it really was.

"So." I said, watching her smile at her phone. "What's up?"

She looked up at me. "God Kat, you wouldn't believe it."

After the morning I had I'd believe anything. "Try me." I told her, frowning as she smiled back down at her phone again.

"Well." She said, her eye's lighting up. "Remember those drunk guy's from last week?"

"Um." I said smiling and biting my lip. "Could you be a little more specific Dani, I mean there were only about 40 drunk guy's who came in last week." And I honestly had no idea who she was talking about.

"Ugh Kat, come on." She groaned. "You remember them, they came in with their friend, they were singing."

"Oh you mean Hotel California guy's." I remembered those guy's now, they'd been no problem, actually the guy I was looking after basically slept through the whole thing.

"Yes them." She said smiling and she was smiling a lot.

"What about them?" I asked her, now I was curious, she just looked so happy.

"Well." She told me. "I may have broken the rules and given Brian, that was the guy I was looking after, my number."

"Oh." I said. I wasn't sure what to say, I mean we weren't allowed to fraternise with patients, I mean we could loose our jobs. "Is that a good idea?"

She shrugged. "I don't know, probably not." She said. "But him and I have been texting."

"And?" I urged her, now I wanted the gossip, I mean if she'd met a guy I wanted to know all about it.

"And." She said smiling. "He's actually really nice, we have so much on common, and well I enjoy talking to him."

"Well good I'm glad." I said softly, and I was glad, if Dani was happy I was happy. "Just don't let Maria find out."

"Oh fuck no." Dani muttered, rolling her eye's. "Imagine her, fuck."

I nodded, imaging Maria's joy at getting to fire Dani.

"Anyway." Dani said smiling again. "I have a date with him tomorrow night."

"Oooh." I said winking. "A date."

"Yeah." She said shifting on the grass, avoiding my eye's.

"What?" I asked her, sensing something was up. "Don't you want to go out with him?"

"What?" She asked looking at me. "Of course I do, it's just...." And her voice trailed off.

"Just what?" I asked urging her on, Sometimes getting info out of her was hard work.

"Remember his friend?" She asked me and I nodded.

"Yeah Matt or something." I said. "He was passed out drunk."

"Yeah him." She said quickly. "Well it would seem you and him are joining us, a double date."

I took a mouthful of my coffee frowning. I thing I misheard her. I was sure she said a double date.

"I beg your pardon?" I asked her, hoping for some clarification.

"Yeah you and Matt." She went on, still speaking quickly, completely avoiding looking at me. "You are coming with us, a double date."

"Um so who decided that I was going on a double date with you?" I asked her, god I didn't want anyone organising my non existent social life.

"Brian and I." She said standing up and brushing off her butt. "Look Kat, just do it for me please, I think I like him and well I would like for you to do this one thing for me."

Great, I thought standing up, now she was trying to guilt me into a date, with a guy who last time I saw him was snoring his pretty little head off.

"Please." She begged, grabbing my arm.

"Ugh fine." I mumbled. "One date and then you're on your own."

"I promise." She said grabbing my hand and dragging me back towards work. "After tomorrow night no more."

I nodded. I wasn't interested in dating anyone at the moment, I couldn't cope, I was barely managing my own life without the added drama of a relationship.
