Matt's POV
"What the hell are you doing here?" I cried, opening the front door.
"Well it's nice to see you too Matt." Brian snapped, pushing past me and walking in.
"Yes well hi." I snapped. "Now what are you doing here?"
He frowned at me. "Dani is working." He told me. "So I thought I'd come over, see of you wanted to do something."
"Yeah sorry." I mumbled. "I'm busy." And I was, I was very fucking busy.
"Something smells good." Brian said, ignoring me and walking into the kitchen. "I'm starving."
"Good for you." I muttered, following him. "Unfortunately it's not for you."
"Oh." He said walking to the fridge and grabbing a beer. "Who's it for?"
Fuck me, he was making himself right at home and Kat was due to arrive very soon.
"Kat." I mumbled, glancing at the oven where dinner was cooking.
"What?" Brian chuckled. "This is all for Kat?"
I scowled at him. What the fuck was that supposed to mean. "Well yeah." I told him. "She's coming for dinner."
He chuckled again. "I take it you like her."
I shrugged. "She's okay." She was more than okay but frankly it was none of his business.
"You've gone to a lot of effort for someone who's okay Matt." Brian said looking at me.
I was glad he couldn't see the big bouquet of flowers I currently had hiding in the bathroom.
"Yeah well." I muttered.
"I guess you really like her." He said standing up and draining his beer.
And here we were, once again, everyone being concerned about my love life.
"So why did she leave on Sunday?" He suddenly asked, looking at me.
I shrugged. "I don't really know." And she still never answered that question, even though I'd text and asked her about ten times.
He smiled at me and shook his head. "You're a fucking idiot Matt." He said. "She left because you ignored her."
"I didn't ignore her." I snapped and I didn't fucking ignore her at all.
"You did." He chuckled. "You just left her to fend for herself."
I rolled my eye's. "No I didn't just leave her, I was keeping an eye on her and she was talking with Dani and if people had have left me alone and stopped asking about her I would have gone over and talked to her."
"You idiot." He snapped. "People just wanted to know who she was and why she was with you."
"Well." I snapped back. "It was pretty fucking obvious why she was with me, if I didn't like the girl I wouldn't have asked her to come with me." And that's what I didn't get. Obviously if I didn't like her I wouldn't have asked her out. "My love life is my business."
"Alright alright." He mumbled walking to the door. "All I'm saying is that to Kat it probably looked like you weren't interested in her."
I shook my head. I was more than interested in her. "Not true."
"Yeah true." He laughed, opening the door.
"Yeah yeah." I snapped. "Now fuck off. She'll be here soon."
"See you later Casanova." He chuckled, walking down the path. "Have a great night."
I nodded, closing the door. I planned on having a great night, with Kat. Just Kat and I, without everyone trying to pry into our business.
I went back to the kitchen, checking on the chicken that was cooking in the oven nicely and then I went into the bathroom, grabbing the flowers. I set them up on the dining room table along with the wine glasses and lastly I lit the candles, diming the lights.
I smiled, now all I had to do was wait for Kat to come. I was pretty excited to see her, it had certainly been a long week. It was especially long at the beginning of the week when it was apparent Kat was avoiding my call's and text's, but thankfully she'd finally answered and now we were having dinner.
I knew Brian was right, yes I didn't act very well around other people where women were concerned, but honestly, who I dated was my business and like I said, I wouldn't have brought her if I didn't like her, so to me it was pretty fucking obvious I liked her.
My thoughts were interrupted by the doorbell and I glanced around quickly once more, making sure everything was in place, before going to the door and answering it.
"Hi." I said smiling at Kat.
Ugh. She looked beautiful, perfect and I really just wanted to kiss her there, right in the doorway.
"Hi." She said smiling back. "I brought wine."
"No." I said grabbing it off her. "You shouldn't have done that." And this whole dinner was meant to be about her.
She shrugged and I stepped back, letting her in. "Come on." I said walking into the dining room where I had everything set up.
"Sit down." I said pulling a chair out for her. "Dinner will be awhile, but I'll get us a drink."
Kat sat down while I rushed into the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of wine. Dear god, I was a bundle of nerves. She just made me feel all crazy and I needed to calm down a little.
I stopped, taking a drink of water, trying not to think about Kat, but thinking about Kat. She had a dress on, it clung to her body a little and her hair was down, damn I loved her hair down.
"Jesus Christ." I whispered to myself, walking back into the dining room. I needed to relax.
I smiled, pouring us both of glass of wine, before sitting opposite her.
"So how have you been?" I asked her, picking up my glass, thank god my voice sounded calmer than I felt.
"Busy." She said, picking up her glass. "Working mornings, so I can't have a late night."
Was she shutting me down?
"Um, so." I said, ignoring her comment. "What is Kat short for?"
She smiled, and god, my breath stuck in my throat. "Kate if I'm in trouble, Katelyn if I'm in deep shit."
Katelyn, god it was as beautiful as her. "I take it you don't like being called that?"
"No." She said flatly.
Thank god the oven buzzer went off, because I was dying here and it gave me an opportunity to go into the kitchen and get myself together again.
"Dinner's ready." I mumbled, getting up going into the kitchen.
"Need help?" Kat asked, suddenly appearing in the kitchen as well.
"No." I told her smiling. "Go, sit down, I've got it."
"I don't mind." She said walking over to where I was standing in front of the oven. "It smells good." She added, bending down to peer in.
"Um yeah." I mumbled as she stood back up and faced me.
I looked at her, standing there, looking back at me and I couldn't help myself, I reached out, touching her cheek then sliding my hand to the back of her neck, pulling her face gently to mine.
I closed my eye's, kissing her softly, and it was as good as I remembered, it really was.
