Kat's POV
I woke up early on the day of Matts' birthday, even though I'd stayed out late last night. I'd gone to Dani's straight after work, I just couldn't stand being anywhere near Matt. He was ignoring my existence, it was like I just didn't exits, so I decided I'd rather spend the evening with Dani than with him.
Dani spent most of the evening trying to convince me to leave him, and I had to admit, I was getting pretty close. I loved him, but was this something I wanted to deal with. Who has this sort of relationship? I knew Matt had a temper but this was ridiculous.
I'd decided I'd see how the party went and then tomorrow I'd make the decision. Do I stay or do I leave?
"I'll decide tomorrow." I mumbled to myself, getting up and heading into the bathroom.
I finished in the bathroom then headed into the kitchen to make a coffee and while I was standing there I heard him walk in.
He made a coffee and sat down and his phone rang immediately. I stood there, listening to him talk to his mom and when he hung up I took the opportunity to give him his gifts. Yeah I'd put a bit of effort into his gifts and yeah I'd spent a bit of money on him, much to Dani's disgust, but it was his birthday regardless of whether he was an asshole or not.
"Happy birthday." I mumbled, placing the three gifts in front of him.
One was a beautiful watch, one a ring and the other some stupid game he'd kept on talking about. I'd put a lot of thought into his gifts, and my heart broke as he grunted, stood up and walked out of the kitchen.
I watched him leave, then grabbed the gifts, making my way to the spare room, where'd I'd been pretty much living for the past week. Maybe I'd be able to get my money back. I hoped so.
I sat in my room, listening as people started to arrive to set up. I heard Zack's voice and I skipped lunch. I could hear his smart remarks and frankly I just was done dealing with it all.
I was contemplating getting ready for the party when my phone rang and I picked it up smiling for the first time today.
"Hey you." I answered.
"Hey." Dani said. "How are thing's?"
"Volatile." I mumbled and that was a bit of an understatement.
"He didn't like your gifts then I take it?" She snapped, pissed off.
I laughed sarcastically. "He didn't even open them, I gave them to him and he walked away." Saying it out loud hurt even more.
"For god sake Kat." Dani snapped. "Just leave, you shouldn't have to deal with that."
"I know." I sighed. "I told you, tomorrow Dani. Okay?"
"Okay." She said softly. "Anyway I better go get ready, so I'll see you soon."
"Bye." I murmured hanging up.
I sat on my bed for ten minutes, thinking. Thinking about Matt, thinking about Matt and I. I loved him, I did, and I guessed that was the reason I was still here, stupidly. Obviously he didn't think much of me, it was pretty fucking obvious.
I decided to get ready. I showered and straightened my hair, putting on my make up. I was putting in a little extra effort, although the effort I was going to would go to waste, I was pretty sure Matt couldn't give a fuck if I was at his party or not.
I could hear people arriving as I finished my hair and make up. I went into my room and pulled out the dress I brought especially for tonight. At the time I thought it was beautiful, now it just looked stupid. I put it on and the matching shoes I'd brought to go with it. I looked at myself in the mirror. I wasn't happy with what I saw but it would have to do. This was me and there wasn't anything I could do about it.
I took a deep breath and made my way out the back, glancing around. Matt was standing around and he was talking with some people, including Zack who took the opportunity to glare at me. I looked away quickly and spied a girl I knew, making my way over to her, making small talk and praying that Dani would hurry up come.
"Kat." Johnny said walking over to me and smiling. "You are looking incredibly beautiful tonight."
"Thanks." I said softly. God bless him, he was already drunk, but such a damn sweetheart, unlike his friends.
"Hey." Dani said, suddenly appearing beside me, clutching a wine and Brian.
"Oh hey." I said hugging her quickly.
"Let me get you a wine Kat." Brian offered, walking off before I had a chance to respond.
"How are you?" Dani asked, looking at me.
I shrugged. "Shit." And that was the truth.
"Yeah well Kat." She said softly. "I told you what to do."
I nodded and looked over at Matt, my breath catching in throat. Standing there with him was Victoria and I felt a pain in my chest. He'd actually invited her, to his party and now he was flaunting her in front of me.
"You have got to be fucking kidding me." Dani hissed, marching straight over.
I didn't watch. I turned away, I didn't want to see Matt with another woman, it hurt.
"He's an idiot Kat." Brian murmured, handing me a glass of wine. "He's so fucking stupid. Don't worry I'll sort him out."
I took a mouthful of my wine. "I wouldn't bother Brian." I said softly. "It wouldn't make a difference, but thanks for the offer."
"Fucking dimwit." Brian muttered, taking a drink of his beer.
I managed to avoid Matt, Zack and Victoria for the early part of the evening, but as the night wore on Matt's mom came to me, asking about the birthday cake.
"Should we do it now?" I asked Kim and Dani.
They shrugged, looking around. Everyone was pretty well on their way to being drunk so I guessed now was as good a time as any.
I went into the kitchen and grabbed the candles and the lighter, making my way back outside to the cake, carefully placing the candles, then getting ready to light them.
"You can't have cake yet." Victoria said, suddenly appearing beside me.
"Why?" I mumbled, not even pretending to be nice.
"Look Kat." She said in a condescending tone. "I know these guy's better than you, it's too early for the cake."
I looked at her and fuck, she looked so fucking pleased with herself.
"Fine." I mumbled shoving the lighter at her. "You can do the cake whenever you think it's appropriate."
She smiled widely, taking the lighter from me. "Great idea." She chirped.
I turned and headed back inside. It was a waste of time me even coming to the stupid party, it really was. I think I would take Dani's advice and go and stay with her until I could find my own place, it was obvious I wasn't wanted here anymore.
I went inside, heading to the bathroom, washing my make up off and changing into my pyjama's before crawling into the bed in the spare room.
I could hear everyone outside enjoying the party and I was glad they were having such great time while I was laying here, curled up, crying my eye's out.
