A few days had gone by and Sam continued to spend time at Connie's bedside whenever he could, despite her insistence that she was okay. "You know, you could be doing something useful with your time instead of sitting about being gormless Strachan."

Sam glanced up from the file he was reading and narrowed his eyes at her. "You implying I waste a lot of my time Beauchamp?" "Ummm yes, exactly what I'm saying." She smiled as he laughed, the quiet of the room being broken as Belle began to cry from the bed across the room. " I've got her Con..."

She paused where she was on the edge of the bed having been ready to comfort her daughter. Sam cradled Belle in his arms cooing down at her with a wide grin. "She is so beautiful Connie..." When there was no response he looked up to see a vacant expression on her face, the sadness in her eyes something he could no longer ignore.

Crossing the room once again, he sat up on the bed beside her. With one arm holding Belle, he moved the other around her shoulders. "Right time to talk to me..." She released a slow breath letting her eyes drift across to their daughter. "I nearly killed her Sam-" "Hey. None of this was your fault."

She shook her head lifting a hand to her cheek wiping away the few tears that had fallen. "I could have take all of this away from you, I could have ruined everything-" "But she's still here, and so are you... Con I have everything I could ever want in my life and that's because of you." Sam moved his hand to cup her cheek brushing the remaining tears from her porcelain skin.

When she eventually lifted her eyes to meet his her words came out quieter than before. "I'm sorry-" "You have nothing to be sorry for, I promise you. All I want from you is to be a mother to our girls and a wife to me." The corners of her lips turned up despite the tears that still fell. "What did I ever do to end up like this with you?"

Sam smirked with a laugh as he encased her with his free arm. "I don't know, but you could have figured it out earlier and saved us both some heartache and wasted relationships." Connie nudged his side gently before sitting back up and moving onto the bed properly.

"Do you want to take Belle?" Connie nodded with a smile as he passed over his daughter, the pair becoming comfortable as Connie relaxed backwards. Sam remained perched on the edge of the bed, a hand placed to her thigh as he watched them. "You're amazing at that-" "What?" "Being a mother... Keeping her happy. You really are a natural with all this. Not quite how I thought the ice queen would react to being a Mum."

Connie couldn't help but smirk as she thought about his words. Belle began to whimper and turn within Connie's arms, her cries slowly becoming louder. "Wow... Someone can make some noise." "I wander who they get that from Con." She raised a perfectly arched brow in his direction before rubbing a finger to her cheek. "I think someone's hungry."

Sam smiled checking the time on his phone before standing up catching Connie's attention. "She's not the only one so I'm going to go find us some food-" "You don't have to leave just because I'm feeding her Sam." He shrugged wandering closer to the bed leaning down to place a kiss to her forehead. "No I don't... But if we want Belle fed and me to keep my hands off of you, then I need to go and find us some lunch."

Rolling her eyes she leant into his chest while he bent over her kissing Belle's forehead. "Be good for your Mummy while I'm gone... I won't be long, anything you'd like?" "Everything I want I can't have, so I'll stick with whatever you get." Sam smirked before leaving the room, Connie beginning to feed Belle meaning the room fell deadly silent.

"You my little princess, are going to be a nightmare like your sister aren't you? Mhmm... I can already tell. Another beautiful disaster running around the house. I know your Daddy isn't going to stop until he knows we've both get everything we need. I love him though, I just don't want to let him down."

Connie continued talking down to Belle before falling quiet as she continued feeding her. A little while later Sam returned with a smile, his hands full of food. "How was she?" "Fine, she's starting to get the hang of it now... Not like Grace, it took me weeks to get her to feed properly." Sam smiled wandering closer, taking Belle from her arms.

"I've got a few choices, I'll let you have first pick..." Connie smiled grabbing one of the sandwiches and a bottle of water from the bed watching Sam as he held Belle against his chest, rubbing her back. "Doctor says you can come home tomorrow, providing I don't let you do much around the house." Connie rolled her eyes as she crossed her legs sitting forwards on the bed.

"I'm fine Sam-" "You might be, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to take care of you... I've spoken to Elliot, I'm taking my full paternity to spend time with you and the baby. You're not on your own this time Connie and I'm going to do whatever I can to make this easier for you..."

Connie smiled watching him once again before running a hand back through her hair. "Oh, and you could never let me down Con. You're an amazing mother and role model to my children, nobody else in this world could do it better." She smiled warmly settling down for their final afternoon on the ward before being able to return to some normality tomorrow.
