Sam wandered across the car park with his arm around Connie's waist. "You sure you can't take the rest of the afternoon off? You're exhausted-" "I'll be okay, I'm being careful I promise." He watched her before continuing to walk into the department with her.

Everything was fairly calm today and so Connie had been able to work slowly. She'd been doing some paperwork in the morning before heading into resus with Charlie. Sam had swung by the department to check up on her, as he did most days now. Although Connie was wound up by it, she also wouldn't change how caring Sam was towards her.

They stopped in the doorway of her office as Sam leant his hands on the doorframe either side of her. "Rest." "Okay." She rolled her eyes before he pressed his lips gently to hers. "Do you want me to come and meet you or are you coming up?" "There's no point in you coming down, I'll met you outside Darwin?"

Sam nodded placing another gentle kiss to her lips before disappearing. Returning inside Connie sat behind her desk releasing a deep breath as she lay her hands to her stomach. "You're giving your Daddy all the reason to bug me every hour of the day you know." She remained in the same position for a while before sitting herself up to the desk.

Nobody other than Sam knew about the baby and for now, that's exactly how Connie wanted to keep it, at least until they'd had their scan this afternoon. Connie still struggled letting many people into her life, and something like this reminded her of just how private she once used to be.

Rolling her head back she closed her eyes momentarily feeling the exhaustion of the last few weeks hit her. She'd been covering the department while they were a consultant down and she seemed to be surrounded by never ending piles of paperwork.

Half an hour passed quickly as she sat in her office alone until there was a knock at the door. Glancing to the time she frowned seeing it was still too early for Sam to be coming down. "Come in-" "Thought you could use this." Connie sighed gratefully seeing the cup of coffee within his hands. "Thank you so much, Sam complains when I drink the stuff now. Says it's bad for them."

Connie froze with the cup in her hands a she released her mistake. Breathing in she looked to Charlie who was watching her questioningly. "Please don't tell him I told you, he'll kill me." Charlie laughed still standing opposite her desk. "Am I to think that was your way of telling me you're-" "Yes..."

His smile grew wider as he looked over at Connie. "Congratulations... Should I be taking that drink away from you-" "Not if you know what's good for you." He held his hands up in surrender taking a seat opposite her desk. "Pregnant? How long have you known-" "A few weeks, we've got a scan this afternoon but we were going to keep it quiet for as long as we could."

Charlie laughed as she leant back in her chair rolling her eyes. "Apparently my brain isn't functioning today though." "Don't worry, your secret's safe with me... What did Sam say when he found out?" Connie dropped her eyes to the desk slightly as she grinned. "I've never seen him happier."

Another knock on the door half an hour later caught her attention. "Hello?" "Sorry, I got away early, figured I'd keep you company but I see you've already got some." Charlie smiled as Sam came inside sitting on the sofa behind them. Sam looked between the pair before folding his arms against his chest.

"You told him didn't you-" "I didn't meant to it just came out." He laughed shaking his head as Connie moved from behind her desk to sit on the sofa beside him. She leant into his side as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "I think I can cope with Granddad knowing about little one."

Sam's hand rest against the side of her stomach as he smiled. "Well congratulations to you both, and I hope everything goes well this afternoon... I'll leave you to it Connie." She smiled as Charlie disappeared leaving her to settle into Sam properly. "You tired?" She nodded finally giving into sleep as she quickly drifted off against him.

He remained beside her, laying on the sofa with his arms around her. "You're the most important woman in my life Connie and I have to remind myself everyday that this is all real... That this is all happening. God I love you, I can't believe we're having another baby. I can't believe I'm going to be a dad again..."

He ran his fingers back and forth across her stomach with a slight smile. "I already love you so much, I don't know what I'll do if anything happens to you... Any of you. You're my world and I can't imagine my life without any of you." Connie curled into his side more, her arm wrapping around him as she slept.

Sam relaxed beside her closing his eyes for a moment knowing they still had some time before they were due upstairs in maternity. Everything was quiet in the office and he was glad to see Connie getting some rest, he knew how stubborn she could be and had expected her to put up some fight to relaxing.

As he lay there, he thought about the next few weeks and things he could do to help her take a break. It was almost time for Grace to start school, so before she did he decided to arrange a few days away for them all.
