Chapter Forty Four

Baekhyun's mind is completely blank. The events were all too sudden to internalize, it feels like he just woke up from a dream and now he's feeling his body getting weaker, like he could collapse once again. But this time, somehow in his weak state, Chanyeol's hand in his is making him strong enough to run from the rooftop to his mother's room.

When Luhan opened the door, there are several doctors and nurses attending Mrs Byun. Sehun and Eunji are by the side. Eunji is crying non-stop while Sehun is comforting her. Luhan starts calling their friends for support but Baekhyun's gaze turns to his mother. His pale and weak mother who already gave up.

Baekhyun runs to her, he kept on trying to wake her up even if the doctors tried their best to call him down. He couldn't accept this, not his mom, not the only strength he has.

It was a devastating scene, something Chanyeol never expected to feel. He's seen people die, their relatives cry and all but never did he felt depressed while seeing it. Watching Baekhyun cry as he hug his mom makes Chanyeol feel something, as if he's a normal human being. The pain Baekhyun is feeling is so strong that Chanyeol can feel it too.

Baekhyun holds on tight to his mother's hand. The hand he always holds whenever he's scared or nervous. The hand that always reassures him that everything is going to be okay. The hand he truly misses, it's still the same hand but the warmth is no longer there making Baekhyun realize the harsh reality he is in.

"I'm sorry, she's gone" the doctor says and pats Baekhyun's shoulder.  The doctor looks at Chanyeol and pats him as well, "Are you Chanyeol?"

Chanyeol nods yet curious why the doctor knows him. "Mrs Byun told me to tell you this, she wants you to take care of Baekhyun. She heard from Eunji that Baekhyun has a new protector and she wants you to take over" Chanyeol does not know what to respond, so instead he nodded. The doctors left while Luhan is in shock after hearing what the doctor told Chanyeol.

Kai knows what to do. He lost his parents when he was still young. When he arrived along with their friends, Suho, Chen and Xiumin, they were bringing clothes and food. Luhan tried convincing Eunji to eat but it's no use. Sehun was the one who explained to their friends what happened, while Chanyeol and Baekhyun were back at the rooftop.

It was awfully quiet but Chanyeol understood. The only thing that worries him is that Baekhyun might disappear again and let Taehyung be in control. "Chanyeol.. stop staring at me"

Chanyeol's eyes widen, he immediately stands infront of Baekhyun. "Who are.. you?" The smaller rolls his eyes, "what do you expect? Of course we'll swap" Chanyeol sighs and sits again. "Fck."

Taehyung holds his hair in frustration. "Damn. I can't even find him" Chanyeol sighs, "let's let him be." "What?!" Taehyung answers while Chanyeol looks at him. "He's deeply hurt, he loves his mom more than anybody. He needs time to internalize this"

Chanyeol stands up and starts to walk away when Taehyung holds his arm that surprised the taller. "I know I hate you to death but you don't understand. I can't find Baekhyun inside... I'm not sure if he'll ever be back" Chanyeol's eyes widen.

Before Chanyeol could react, Taehyung walked to him, grabbed his collar and kissed Chanyeol. The taller was frozen, as he looked at Taehyung who's hand is in his collar and eyes closed.
