You sat in the hospital waiting room Lydia placed her hand on your thigh and looked at you with teary eyes "it'll be okay" she said pressing her lips together you scoffed and looked down "Thats what everyone keeps saying but it's not okay and it's not gonna be okay"

"Y/n Byers" you looked away from Lydia and stood up "we can get you on a flight back to Lakewood in an hour" the sherif said "thanks dad" Stiles whispered from behind you

"Hey mom" You said getting in the car "you okay?" She asked "Im not, but I will be" you gave her a hopeful smile.

You walked into the house walking straight up stairs "was that y/n?" Audrey asked standing up from the couch where she sat next to Dustin your mom nodded and told her to go up

You slammed your balcony door and stood for a second taking heavy breaths before letting out a scream of angry and agony you dropped to the concrete and sat criss cross on the balcony staring out at the trees and the sky as you started to break down. Arms wrapped around your shaking form and you finally let sobs wrack your body. You didn't bother to try and see who it was you just knew. It was pretty obvious from the blue bomber jacket and scuffed up combat boots.

Audrey sat in front of you gently pulling her into her lap. You curled your fingers into her black shirt as if clasping for her support. She ran her hands through your hair she whispered hushed words as a way to calm you down. Your sobs eventually turned to sniffles but you kept shaking as you pulled away looking down at your trembling hands Audrey wiped a tear off you cheek

"I don't get it" you whispered after a moment of silence playing with the rings on Audrey's fingers "she was hung from the banister Audrey" You said looking at her with your pained eyes Audrey bit her lip and looked down the hanging of Rachel being all too familiar

"Why is there so much pain? I just want it to all stop, but I know I can't because more people are going to die and there is nothing that I can do about that. How can someone just go and kill people and then go about their day like it was nothing, like they hadn't caused so much suffering"

Audrey stayed silent as she processed your words, probably thinking of all the time Nina released the video or the stares she got in the hallway for kissing a girl. Or the times Noah got shoved to the ground while being called a 'geek' or 'freak of nature'. Or the times you showed up at Noah's house while Audrey was over for the night because of your nightmares. Three broken kids curled up in a bed together weeping over all the pain and terror.

"I-i dont know babe" Audrey whispered placing a kiss on your forehead "but I do know that we can get through this, ive done it before and now I got you we got each me, you, and Noah"

It was your turn to stay silent letting out a sigh and looked into Audrey's blue eyes, reaching up your hand to run through her hair; something you loved to do and seemed to find comfort in. A smile appeared on Audrey's face at your actions "you really like my hair huh?" You raised and eyebrow and nodded "i love it"
