SCENE 1: The following morning...Cellphone alarm clock rings, napabalikwas si Alex sa sahig sabay biglang tayo. Alam nya na pag ang alarm clock ng telepono nya ang tumunog, ibig sabihin late na sya dahil kadalasan sa loob ng kwarto, normal na alarm clock ang gamit nya.
Nagmamadali si Alex sa pagligo, pag-aayos ng bag na gagamitin sa opisina, pag-aayos sa sarili at paglalagay ng konting make-up. Araw-araw, nakikipagsapalaran si Alex sa MRT - mula sa pagpila para sa ticket; pagpila para makasakay na minsan umaabot pa sa EDSA ang haba; pakikipagsiksikan habang binabantayan ang bag, wallet, telepono at puri; at ang pananatiling mukhang tao matapos na matapat sa kili-kili ni manong na parang isang linggong walang paligo.
SCENE 2: Office
Boss: Alex in my office, please. *Alex goes in*
Have a seat. Pano ko ba'to sisimulan. Hmmm..
Alex, I regret to inform you that the firm is cutting off its budget for this year and so we also need to let go of some of our employees and unfortunately, you're one of them.
Alex: What? Wait Sir, antagal ko na sa company na to! Right from college dito na'ko nagstart sana magkaron po kayo ng konting consideration especially na kakamatay lang ng Tatay ko. Hindi ko po kayang mawalan ng work sa ngayon na maraming naipon na gastusin.
Boss: Alex, sorry talaga. The board discussed this over and over and even if I argued not to let you go because of how good you are, I can't do anything about it anymore, board na ang nag-decide. Even Gertrude who's been with us for two decades, naalis din. But don't worry, we have your retrenchment packages all sorted out. You'll still receive 6 months worth of salary after the effective date plus any unused vacation leaves and sick leaves will be converted to cash.
Alex: I guess there's not much I can do now. Ilang months nalang po ba?
Boss: Hmmm, more on days. You have until end of this week to hand over all your ongoing projects. Leave them on my desk.
Alex: Okay po.
Boss: Thanks Alex for all the years of hard work. You're one of our brilliant minds. And in case you need my help for your referrals, just give out my number and I'd be more than happy to do it.
Bumalik si Alex sa work desk nya nang malungkot. May mga officemates na nakiusisa. Even Gertrude went to her desk. She started packing her things, tidying all her ongoing projects.
Suddenly, AJ called her.
AJ: Hey babe, let's meet later for dinner and movie?
Alex: Ok
AJ: I'll pick you up around 6pm at the lobby
Alex: Okay, see you. Love y~~ *phone hang up*
SCENE 3: Naghihintay si Alex sa lobby. Bumusina si AJ. Pinuntahan ni Alex at pumasok sa kotse. Beso sa cheeks.
Alex: Alam mo bang namatay na si Tatay?
AJ: Huh? Ah, yeah, you told me sa text diba?
Alex: Hindi ka man lang umakyat ng Nueva Ecija?
AJ: You expect me to drive 4 hours?
Alex: Si Tatay kaya yun!
AJ: Yeah, I know. I'm sorry, I'm just too busy.
Alex: With what?
AJ: Work?! Ano pa ba?
Alex: Even at night?
