Seventeen

By the time Troye woke up, Mikey and Pete had gone home and Joel was laying on the floor with Riley watching The Fox and The Hound for the thirtieth time. They both had peanut butter on their faces, which was not a surprise. Jacob was sitting at the end of the couch, scrolling through his phone. He looked up when he felt Troye moving around, smiling at the neko. "Good morning Kitty," he said. Troye meowed in response, crawling over to the human and laying back down, laying his head in Jacob's lap. "Did you have a good nap?" Troye nodded, yawning.

"I did not mean to fall asleep while Mikey was here," he said quietly.

"It's okay, he understood. He took care of Riles while you were sleeping. He really liked that."

Troye smiled. "That's good. It isn't fair what he had to go through. He is so sweet, Jacob. He did not deserve it."

"Neither did you. Neither did Gerard or Zoe or Dan or any of the others. But you're here now, so that's good, yeah? You are all out, you wont be going back."

"I know. It's still hard to fathom the fact that someone could be so cruel to but anyone through that, no matter if they were hybrids, humans or animals."

"Don't think about it, T. You do not need to understand it, I don't think any of us ever will."

Troye nodded with a sigh, letting his eyes fall shut again. "I'm so tired."

Jacob looked concerned. "Are you feeling sick again?"

"No, just tired." The neko yawned again, his nose scrunching up as he did so. "I was tired with Joel too, it's probably just that."

"Have you been eating enough?"

"Yes, Jay. I'm fine, don't worry."

The day after Pete and Mikey's visit was spent shopping and packing for the trip. The hunt for snow gear in California proved to be rather difficult, as to be expected. They did find what they were looking for, which was good since Troye needed to tailor them to work with their tails, so he stayed home and did that while Jacob and the kittens continued shopping. He decided he would invite Zoe over to help him. Alfie agreed and dropped her off before heading to work. The two hybrids were sitting on the floor in Troye and Jacob's room, sewing things spread over the floor.

"These are so cute," Zoe said, picking up a little pair of mittens. 

"Expensive too," Troye said. "I know it never snows here but it was so hard to find anything. Also, Jacob waited too long to be able to buy online." 

Zoe giggled, threading a needle and getting to work. "Sir does the exact thing." Zoe was doing Joel's while Troye did Riley's. They had also decided to alter any other clothes Troye had laying around so they would fit the nekos tails, so they had quite a bit of work to do. "Have you talked to Dan lately?" 

Troye shook his head. "Not for a few days. Why?" 

"He is really upset over not being able to have kittens. Phil keeps assuring him that they can adopt, but he keeps denying it. Says he wants to carry Phil's kittens for him like a good kitty, and he is beating himself up over the fact that he can't." 

Troye's ears lowered. "I feel so bad for him." Not that they could do much about it- if Dan wasn't born with reproductive organs then he obviously couldn't have kittens. "I met Mikey  yesterday. Gerard's brother. He was in the breeding unit, unfortunately." 

"Poor kitty," Zoe sighed. She set down the pants and picked up one of Troye's new dresses. "This is cute."

"Thank you, Zo. I hope Jacob likes it, he hasnt seen it yet." Troye had chosen the dress online the other day, really liking the way it looked. It was navy blue, the top half of it fitted to sit tighter to his body while the skirt flared out. The sleeves came down over his elbows and the skirt fell mid thigh. "I'm going to take that one to Ryan's. Do you think I should put a belt with it?" 

Zoe tilted her head to the side. "Maybe. Like a coral belt maybe." 

Troye got up and walked to his closet (that had originally been both his and Jacobs, but he had taken over it over time. He pulled out a belt and held it up, waiting for Zoe's reaction. 

"Perfect. But you can go without if you want." 

"You can borrow it sometime if you like," Troye offered, coming back to sit down. 

"Thank you, Troye. You should come over sometime and we can trade a few things, we have not done that in a while." 

"That's a good idea, I'll ask Jacob if we can when I get home from Ryan's." 

Zoe smiled at her best friend, setting the dress back down and picking up another article of clothing. "I look forward to it."
