"Troye, kitty, you need to calm down," Jacob pleaded, tears threatening to spill from his own eyes as he hugged his panicking husband. The neko was crying, shaking and breathing much too fast- he was terrified. He could not stop, he was too scared. His kitten- their kitten- was too young. They were too little to be born, the doctors had to know that! If they took her out now she would be too fragile! She would probably break, and then what would Troye do? He sobbed and sobbed, clawing at Dr. Iero as he tried to take him away.
Was he the only one who knew these things? Troye was convinced that he was the only one with common sense in this place. You just can't have your kitten this early. He would not let them.
"Troye, you need to let them do this," Jacob said. "I don't want them to have to tranquilize you, I need you to be awake. I need you to do this for me, Joel, Riley and the new baby. Can you please do it for me? Can you just try to breathe and let Dr. Iero help you?"
Troye shook his head, coughing as he choked on his tears. "C-can't," he sobbed. "Too l-little."
"Kitty, I know that she is too little. But you keeping them inside isn't going to do anything good, either."
"B-but-"
"Dr. Iero knows the best. Troye, please just listen to him..."
Troye looked at Dr. Iero over Jacob's shoulder. The doctor looked stressed, just like them. "Troye... We need to do this. If we don't..."
"What will happen to them if we do not?" Troye asked, his words muffled from his crying and by the fact that he had his face buried in Jacob's shoulder.
"The baby will die," Dr. Iero said. "The only way we can have any chance of saving them is if we do a cesarean section right now. And I mean it when I say right now. They are not getting the proper amount of oxygen or nutrients. They are very sick, and we can't help feed them at this point while they are inside of you."
Troye let out a heartbroken meow, hugging Jacob tightly. "I am sorry that I did not do a good job of carrying your baby, daddy. Kitty is so sorry," he said, his voice quiet enough that Jacob barely even heard the words.
"None of that, Kitty. This isn't your fault." Jacob hugged Troye one last time before letting go of him and helping him stand up. The couple looked at Dr. Iero and Jacob nodded, Troye just letting out a small sniffle before trying to take a step forward. He stumbled though, Jacob grabbing him before he could fall. Kyla quickly got a wheelchair and put Troye in it, the hybrid taking his tail in his hands and holding onto it tightly.
He was still shaking and his breathing was still faster than normal, but he was a little bit better than before. He was so scared, but he had to be strong for Jacob. He had to be strong for their baby.
Dr. Iero had already gotten an operating room for them, so they got into it quick. Kyla, along with a bunch of other nurses quickly got him ready, putting up the curtain so that he could not see. Troye whimpered at this; it scared him more that he could not see what was happening. He wanted to see what the doctors were doing. Everyone knew that that would only make things worse, though. Troye would only panic more if he could see.
"You are going to feel a bit of pressure, okay?" Dr. Iero said. Troye nodded weakly, watching Jacob's face closely. He was watching for reactions, watching for signs that things were going wrong.
Jacob's fingers brushed over his hand and arm comfortingly as he looked at what the doctors were doing. Troye could feel the familiar pressure, he knew that they were making the incision. He could hear the doctors words, but they were muffled. Everything was muffled; the beeping of the monitor, the clanking of the tools on the metal tray, the sound of Jacob's comforting words. Troye's heartbeat was loud in his ears. It was the only thing he could hear clearly, the thump, thump, thump of his heart beating. His vision was starting to blur too, the lights seemed to be spinning and he could not see Jacob's pretty hazel eyes that he loved so much.
"Jacob..." he muttered weakly, grabbing his humans attention.
There was a faint 'we're losing him!' as Troye saw the blurry figure of a nurse holding something. It was his kitten. They were not crying though, and they were very still as the nurse and about three doctors whisked them away, leaving Dr. Iero to try and help Troye.
'Stay with us!'
Troye tried, but the darkness encasing him was too much. He looked up at Jacob and Dr. Iero, muttering a quiet 'Jacob' before the darkness consumed him, taking him away to unconsciousness.
