"Be gentle," Dr. Iero said quietly, placing the little girl's body in Troye's arms. The blue eyed boy started crying as soon as he felt the light weight of his daughter for the first time. It was so wrong, she should have been crying. She should have been pink and squirming and kind of gross, not still and silent.
Troye looked up at Jacob, his eyes holding nothing but sorrow. "Daddy..." he muttered, quiet enough that no one but Jacob heard.
Jacob pulled a chair up beside Troye's bed and rest one hand on his thigh. Jacob brought a finger up and pulled the blanket away from her face. "Look how pretty she is. Just like you." He smiled sadly, gently running his hand over her small head, touching her ears like they were delicate flower petals.
"I love her," Jacob said. "She is so gorgeous, kitty."
"But we don't get to keep her," Troye whimpered. "And it's all my fault."
"It isn't your fault," Jacob said again. That seemed to be all he was saying, but Troye wasn't going to listen to him. He was convinced it was his fault and it hurt him so bad.
Troye kissed his kittens forehead, muttering a quiet 'sorry' against her skin.
They sat with her for hours, Troye holding her for a long time and then reluctantly handing her to Jacob, watching closely as he held her. Before Dr. Iero came back in, and Troye held on to her slightly tighter, snarling lowly when he game forward.
Dr. Iero frowned and went about checking on Troye's vitals and giving him pain medication before he actually started to talk to the couple. "Are you ready for me to take her back?" he asked quietly, his voice sympathetic as Jacob slowly nodded.
Troye on the other hand quickly shook his head, hugging the bundle in his arms closer. "No. You can't have her," he said lowly. He laid his ears back as Jacob looked at him. "You're not taking her."
Jacob looked at Dr. Iero, who was looking back at him. "Troye," Jacob prompted quietly, not wanting Troye to make another scene.
"You're not taking her," Troye repeated. His voice was more pressing. "You're not allowed to take her."
"You will be able to see her again tomorrow," Dr. Iero promised. "But I need to take her for now, you need to rest."
Troye shook his head and hissed as Jacob stood up. "Troye, I can't deal with this right now. Please just behave."
"Daddy, you can't let him take her! He could hurt her or never bring her back or-"
"Troye." Jacob's voice was pleading as Troye let out a whimper.
The hazel eyed doctor stepped forward and leaned down, ignoring Troye's hisses as he took the tiny girl away and laid her body in a crib. "Don't take her!" Troye begged, trying to tear his wires out again. Jacob was quick to react though, pinning his arms down so that he could not do any further damage to himself.
Troye tried to fight back, his screams filling the air as he tried his hardest to get to his daughter. Nothing was working though, Jacob was too strong. Troye was too weak. Too weak to carry his kitten like he was supposed to, too weak to protect her.
Useless.
Eventually Troye gave up and fell back against the bed, Jacob's grip on his arms slowly loosening until he felt confident enough to let him go completely and sit back down.
Jacob ran his hand along Troye's arm gently, trying to comfort him. The hybrid was shaking, his heartbeat quick as he sobbed. "Stop touching me," he said quietly. When Jacob didn't stop, he repeated himself again, only louder. "Jacob! I told you to stop!" he snapped, pulling himself away from the human.
"I don't want you to touch me. I hate you," he snapped, pinning his ears.
Jacob looked down at him, offended. "Why would you say that?"
"You let them take her! You obviously don't care for her, and therefore you don't care for me either. I don't want you anymore, I want a daddy who will actually help me."
With those hurtful words, Troye rolled over and stared at the wall, ignoring Jacob as he got up and left the room, shutting the door hard behind him. As soon as the human was gone, Troye broke down again. Fuck, he was so useless.
