Troye's blue eyes opened slowly, blinking a few times at the bright sunlight that streamed into the room. He could feel the dull aching in his abdomen. Troye looked around the room, meowing quietly when he saw Jacob standing by the window, peering out at the city below.
The human turned around as soon as he heard Troye's meow, rushing over to his bedside. "Oh Kitty," he muttered, leaning down to kiss his neko's forehead, "how are you feeling?"
Troye ignored the question and looked around the room again. "Where's my kitten?" he asked, tears in his eyes. "Are they..."
"She's alive, baby."
The tears started pouring down Troye's face as he grabbed Jacob's hand and held it close. "She's a girl?"
"Yeah, we have a baby girl."
Troye smiled, looking up at Jacob with love filled eyes. "We have a baby girl." His mind instantly filled with thoughts of braiding her hair and putting her in dresses. "Is she pretty?"
Jacob hesitated before answering. "She is... She was born very early," he started. "She is not like Joel or Riley was when they were born."
Troye's smile started to fade. "But she's alive?"
"We don't know if she's going to make it."
"But..."
"She is on life support. She can't leave the room down the hall, and we aren't allowed to touch her."
Troye instantly started sobbing again, bringing his hands up to cover his eyes. Jacob hurried around him and balanced on the edge of the bed, cradling him close and whispering quietly into his ear.

The neko laid in the hospital bed, Jacob close by his side. Rain dripped down the window, adding to the heavy feeling in the room. Troye had not spoken a word the whole day. He was just waiting for some kind of news. Was their baby going to be okay? Both were thinking the same thing, even if they did not vocalize their thoughts. Jacob was holding Troye's hand, playing gently with his fingers. He would occasionally speak, his voice low and his words comforting. The hybrid did not react to his touch. His ears were still, not even twitching when a nurse would walk in.
He could not decide which was worse - the emotional pain or the physical pain. He really just wanted to cry, to push Jacob away and be on his own. At the same time he knew he would lose his mind if the human left his side. He could not decide what to do, his human side and feline side were working against one another.
His heart literally hurt, it felt heavy. It was hard to breathe. Hell, he had not even gotten any bad news yet, but he felt that he had failed. He had failed Jacob, the whole scenario that was playing out was his fault.
"How are you doing, Troye?" A nurse asked softly as she came into the room, checking up on the neko's vitals and IV.
Troye didn't notice, instead just looking at the wall. "Kitty, can you please tell the nurse how you're feeling?" Troye shook his head no, pulling his hand away from Jacob's.
"No," he muttered. "I don't want to."
"You don't have to talk much," Jacob assured.
The nurse nodded. "Just tell me how bad the pain is. I'll leave you alone after that." She smiled comfortingly, trying to get the hybrid to talk.
