Jacob knocked on the door at Dan and Phil's house, forcing a smile when Joel opened the door. The four year old (almost five year old) grinned and ran forward to hug Jacob's leg. "Hi dad," he said, looking up at Jacob. "Are you feeling any better?"

Jacob paused for a moment before shaking his head no. There was no reason to lie to Joel. The neko frowned and hugged Jacob tighter. "I'm sorry that you are still not feeling better."

"It's okay," Jacob said, "it will get better with time."

Joel silently nodded before letting go of Jacob's leg and holding onto his hand, leading him into the house.

Dan was sat in his closet under the stairs with Riley, playing games with him and giggling every time the kitten did. He was showing off all of his toys, and Riley was attempting to play with them all at once, which kind of just meant he had a mountain of cat toys laying in his lap. He reached around the toys and took another from Dan's outstretched hand, gasping when he knocked another one off of the top of the pile.

"Hey little man," Jacob said, catching Riley's attention. The kitten knocked all of the toys off and lifted his arms towards his dad, meowing to be picked up. Jacob scooped him up off of the ground and Riley quickly buried his head in Jacob's shirt, sticking his thumb into his mouth tiredly. "Aw, are you all worn out?"

"He played all day long," Dan said, crawling out from his place under the stairs. "He had a lot of fun. Is he coming back tomorrow?"

"Possibly, if it is okay with Phil."

"Of course it's okay with me," Phil said, walking over to join everyone. He had two coffees in his hands, holding one out to Jacob. "I do not want you to worry. The boys can stay here with us for as long as they need to. I'm more than happy to help, and Dan sure doesn't mind the company."

Dan nodded along in agreement, crawling out from under the stairs and sitting at Phil's feet. He rubbed up against Phil's leg, purring quietly.

"I appreciate it more than you could ever imagine," Jacob said. "I don't know what I would do if it wasn't for you. Thank you so much."

Phil just shook his head, taking a small sip of his coffee. "No need to thank me. Now, let's go sit down for a few minutes and drink this."

About an hour later, Jacob and the kittens got home. The house felt strangely empty without Troye running to the door to greet them. There was no smell of fresh baked cookies, and the lights were all off. Jacob frowned deeper at this and Joel tuned into his mood shifting right away, running through the house and jumping up to hit a light switch up, flooding the foyer with light.

Joel took off his shoes and hurried to run through the house, turning on some lights so that Jacob would not have to. "There we go Dad, it's not dark anymore!" He scurried off up the stairs, running to his and Riley's room. He went to his brother's dresser and opened the top drawer, pulling out a onsie. He made sure that it was cool enough that Riley would not get hot (even though it was winter and they were in California, Troye always had the heat cranked up). He also picked up Riley's blankie, knowing that he would not go to sleep without it.

Once he had everything he needed, he hurried back downstairs. "Here Dad! I can help you get Riley changed! Does he need a new diaper? I can get the stuff!"

Jacob cracked a small smile, nodding. "Yes, we should change him before we put him to bed."

"Okay!"

Joel went to the closet and got Jacob everything he would need before coming back to join his dad and brother. "Can I help?"

"It's okay, I have it under control. Thank you for offering though, you're doing so well helping me." Jacob reached up and ruffled Joel's hair, the kitten leaning into his touch with a sigh when the human scratched behind his ears. Joel did his best not to huff when Jacob stopped. "You should go get yourself ready for bed though, okay?"

Joel nodded. "Yes sir!" he said with a giggle, skipping off.

Jacob shook his head with a low chuckle as Joel disappeared up the stairs. "Just like Troye," he said to Riley, staring to get his smallest son ready for bed.

By the time Jacob had Riley changed, Joel was running back to the couch. He had his pyjamas on, and he smiled wide to show his pearly white teeth. "All ready! I got changed and brushed my teeth and washed my face. I also got Rile's and my beds ready, just like daddy does when he's here."

"Thank you so much bud, you're so helpful."

Joel smiled proudly and climbed onto the couch beside Jacob, curling up and resting against him with a pur. Riley was all wrapped up in his blanket and basically vibrating as he purred, a pacifier in his mouth and his wide eyes staring up at Jacob. He brought a finger up and poked Jacob's chin, giggling and kicking his feet as he dragged his finger over the stubble that had grown in over the past couple of days.

"You're silly," Jacob said, gently taking hold of Riley's hand and placing it down against his chest. The baby giggled again.

"Can we watch cartoons?" Joel asked, looking up at Jacob with a begging expression.

Jacob nodded. "For a little while."

Joel grabbed the remote and giggled, turning the TV on. "Look Riley! The tweety bird show!"

The trio watched it until both hybrids fell asleep, each of them purring. Jacob carefully moved out from under Joel and carried Riley up the stairs to his room, laying him down in his crib. He tucked him down and kissed his forehead before walking down to get Joel, repeating the process. He turned on their nightlight and shut off the overhead light, walking out of the room and leaving the door open.

He made his way to the bathroom, getting himself ready for bed before going into his and Troye's room, kicking his jeans off and getting into bed. He stared blankly up at the ceiling, a frown on his face as he laid in the cold and empty bed. He eventually drifted off to sleep, thinking about his family the whole time.
