"Just lay here on the table," Dr. Iero said, patting the paper-covered examination bed. Troye nodded and did as told, only a bit more energetic than before due to the cold air he had encountered on the way to the clinic. "We're just going to have a little listen, okay?"

Troye nodded and lifted up his shirt, placing his hands on his belly and smiling. He was so proud of his baby bump, he was so lucky. Dr. Iero also smiled at him, but it seemed more forced. Troye did not think anything of it though, after all, it was rather late to be working.

Dr. Iero picked up the fetal monitor and walked over to Troye. "I'm just gonna listen for a moment, alright?" Troye nodded, moving his hands so that Dr. Iero could place the wand over his pale skin. Everyone waited a moment before they could hear the kitten's heartbeat, Troye instantly smiling.

"Do you hear them Ja..." he trailed off when he saw that Dr. Iero looked far from happy. "What's wrong?"

"I... I will be right back, alright? Just sit tight." The short man hurried out of the room, leaving Troye and Jacob confused.

"What's wrong?" Troye asked again, looking up at Jacob. "You heard the heartbeat, that means that they're okay, right?"

Jacob looked down at Troye and squeezed his hand, a frown on his face. "I don't know, kitty. I don't know why Dr. Iero ran out like that."

"But what if something is wrong?"

Jacob could hear the heartbreak in Troye's voice at the thought of something being wrong with their baby. It made his heart hurt. He did not want his kitty to be sad, he did not deserve it. He deserved to be happy and have a healthy family.

Dr. Iero walked back in a few moments later, another doctor following after him. "This is Dr. Armstrong. He's just going to listen as well, okay?"

Troye nodded as Dr. Armstrong came over to stand next to the bed, the device now in his hand. "Hi Troye," he said politely before listening, just like Dr. Iero had. The second doctor gave the first a worried look before setting the monitor down. "We'll be right back, alright?"

Troye and Jacob both nodded, watching the two doctors walked out. Troye was shaking by this point, his ears out to the sides with worry and his eyes wide. "Why are they acting like that?" he asked, pulling Jacob's hand closer. "The baby has a heartbeat! They are okay, aren't they?"

"I don't know, baby. We just have to wait for them to come back and tell us the plan."

"But what if something is wrong?" Tears started slipping down Troye's face as he looked at Jacob with huge eyes.

"Baby, we just have to wait." Jacob leaned down and kissed Troye's forehead, stroking his ears gently. "I am worried too, but we have to wait and see."

Dr. Iero walked back into the room without Dr. Armstrong, a clipboard in hand. "We are going to send you straight to ultrasound. A nurse is going to take you up for me, but I will be back with you as soon as you are done there."

Dr. Iero handed Jacob the clipboard, sending a forced smile in their direction. "They will be ready to take you right away, alright? Dr. Armstrong has already called them."

"What's wrong?" Troye asked for the third time, looking at Dr. Iero with big eyes.

"We are not sure yet," Dr. Iero said. "We just need to do a few tests."

"Is my kitten gonna be okay?"

Dr. Iero looked between the nervous couple before sighing. "We will just have to wait and see."

Troye opened his mouth to say something more, but stopped when a nurse walked into the room. She had long brown hair and pretty features, along with a friendly smile. She seemed pretty nice.

"Hi Troye, I'm Kyla. Hello Mr. Bixenman," she shook Jacob's and and then Troye's. "Now, Troye. Do you think that you can walk or would you like to ride in a wheelchair?"

Any other time, Troye would have accepted the offer of a wheelchair ride. It was different and fun, and he liked it- it was interesting to sit back and people watch. But this evening was obviously not going well for Troye. "I'll just walk," he said quietly. He was still feeling pretty dizzy and tired, but not enough that he was worried about falling.

Kyla nodded and gestured for Troye and Jacob to follow her, taking them up to the familiar ultrasound room. Troye loved coming here. He loved looking at all of the machines and things, but he loved seeing his babies on the screen more.

"Just lay down here," Kyla said, patting the bed. She picked up a bottle of transmission gel and put it over his belly, getting him ready for when the sonographer came in.

The ultrasound tech looked nice enough, sending Troye and Jacob a smile before picking up the wand. "Hi Troye, I'm Dr. Williams," she said. "I'm just going to take a look at your kitten."

Troye nodded, holding tightly onto Jacob's hand. "What's going on, Dr. Williams? Why do I have to get these tests?"

Dr. Williams looked up at the screen then back at Troye. "We just want to make sure your baby is healthy, and that you are too."

Troye nodded, pulling Jacob's hand closer to his face and nuzzling against it, breathing in Jacob's comforting smell. The neko purred softly as well, trying to calm his nerves.

"Do you see them?" the doctor asked, pointing up at the screen. Troye nodded, smiling. The kitten was so little, so fragile looking. And to think it was his and Jacob's... He was quite proud of himself, in all honesty.

"Kyla," Dr. Williams said softly after a moment, waving the nurse over, "please go get Dr. Iero."

Kyla nodded and hurried off as the smile disappeared from Troye's face. "What's wrong?" he asked again, trying to read Dr. Williams emotions. "Why wont you tell me-"

Dr. Iero and Kyla hurried back into the room at that moment, Dr. Iero looking at Dr. Williams with a worried expression. She just nodded before starting to clean Troye up, the picture of their baby leaving the screen.

"Mr. Bixeman, Troye... We need to operate. Now."
