You Are A Memory - Message to Bears

As soon as Dr. Iero stopped talking, Troye was in hysterics. Jacob hurried to his side, and pulled him into a hug, trying desperately to get him to calm down even though he had tears falling down his own cheeks.

"Daddy?" Joel said quietly, his eyes wide and his tail low as he came over and gently laid a tiny hand on Troye's shaking arm. Troye was quick to push him off with a hiss, shuffling closer to Jacob.

Gee timidly stepped forward and herded Joel and Riley away from Troye, holding onto Joel as he cried. The kitten didn't know what was going on, but seeing his dad's so distressed was hard for him.

"Why is daddy so scared?" Joel asked through his tears, looking up at Gee. "Why is he crying so loud?"

Gee looked up at Dr. Iero, who shook his head sadly.

"He'll be okay," Gee said quietly. "It's going to be okay."

"I don't l-like seeing him so s-sad," Joel said. "It's scaring me."

Gee nodded and stood up, picking Riley up and resting him on their hip. Riley's lip was starting to wobble too, it was so loud and everyone was crying. "Come on Joel, let's go colour. Your dads will be okay, they just need a few minutes to themselves."

Joel nodded reluctantly and followed Gee out of the room, leaving his dads behind with Dr. Iero.

"Why?" Troye asked, his voice shaking and cracking.

"Her heart was weak," Dr. Iero said. "We tried to bring her back but she was just too little and weak."

"This is all my fault," Troye sobbed. "How could I do this? I killed my baby. All my fault, all my fault."

"Troye," Jacob said sternly, his voice also masked with tears. "You didn't cause this, it wasn't your f-"

"YES IT WAS!" Troye shoved Jacob off of him, ignoring the hurt look on his owner's face. "IT WAS ALL MY FAULT AND YOU KNOW IT!"

Jacob tried to lay a hand on Troye's shoulder, but the hybrid lashed out, swatting his hand and managing to scratch the humans arm. He bared his teeth and pinned his ears when Jacob tried to get close again, only relaxing when the man backed off again.

"Leave me alone," Troye said, his voice full of obvious heartbreak. "I don't deserve to have an owner anymore, I failed you."

Troye ripped his IV out, ignoring Dr. Iero when he tried to stop him. He also ignored the drops of blood bubbling to the surface of his skin.

Once he had all of the wires torn off he wandered to the corner of the room, becoming everyone out and curling up behind the big arm chair to just cry. All he wanted to do at the moment was cry and grieve. His chest hurt, his heart seeming to literally break. His scar was burning. He didn't care though, he didn't want medication. He wanted to feel the pain, he felt he deserved it. He had failed Jacob, failed the man who had rescued him and given him a life. He had failed Joel and Riley, his kittens who were so excited to get a new sister. He had failed himself. He always wanted a daughter, but he had killed her. How could he? How could he let them take her out so early? She wasn't ready, how was she supposed to live?

"Troye, please come out," Dr. Iero said quietly.

"No," Troye said, his voice a growl. "Leave me alone."

"You need to let me see your arm. You hurt yourself Troye, I need to give you a bandaid, okay?"

"Fuck off," Troye snapped, pulling his knees up to his chest and wincing slightly at the burning sensation that rippled through his body.

Jacob was sat in a chair on the other side of the room, staring blankly at a wall with tears wetting his cheeks. He wanted to help Dr. Iero, he really did, but he was hurt too. He didn't know how he felt... At that moment he felt numb. He could hear Troye screaming at the doctor, he could hear him swearing and hissing and everything he was not allowed to do.

Jacob turned to look at Dr. Iero a few moments later, staring at the tattooed man as he tried to coax Troye out from behind the chair. Nothing he was saying was doing anything.

Troye was still sobbing and hissing and yelling, and it was too much. Jacob stood up and walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

The first thing he did was ask a random nurse where the nearest waiting room/playroom was located. When he told him he hurried there, finding Gee sat down and cradling Joel in their lap, their fluffy black tail wrapped protectively around the young neko.

When they saw Jacob, they were quick to unwrap their tail and let Jacob pick up his son. The human was quick to grab him and hold him close, his arms wrapped tightly around the small neko's body as the kitten cried.

"Why are you crying?" Joel asked through his own tears. "You're dad, you don't cry."

Jacob frowned and hugged him tighter. "Everyone cries when they get sad enough," he said quietly.

"Why are you so sad then?" Joel asked. "You're scaring me."

"I'm sorry," Jacob whispered. "I don't mean to scare you."

"It's okay, but why are you so sad, dad? I don't like it when you're sad enough to cry."

Jacob smiled ever so slightly. Joel was so innocent and sweet. "Joel, your little sister passed away a little while ago."

Joel pulled away quickly, looking at Jacob with wide eyes. "Y-you mean... She died? That's what that means, right?"

Jacob nodded sadly. Joel started to cry harder as soon as his question was answered. "I'm sorry you're sad, dad. I'm so sad too. We're gonna be okay though. Gee says we're gonna be okay."
