May 1, 2005

The next morning, I made my way over to the band house. Dougie answered the door.

"Hey Lilly. What's up?" He asked, letting me in.

"You left your Back to The Future DVD at my flat." I say, handing him the DVD.

"Oh thanks. I'm sure Tom will be relieved. I'll text him." He said, taking the DVD and putting it on the shelf in the living room. I follow him in.

"I also brought the rest of the pizza. I figured it would be better than ordering pizza." I say, handing him a paper bag with the pizza in it.

"Thanks Lil." He smiles and we walk through to the kitchen were he puts the bag in the fridge.

"So where are the boys?" I ask.

"Harry and Tom went home for the weekend and Danny is with some girl he's been seeing." Dougie says.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"Nothing." He shrugged.

"Do you wanna hang out with me?" I ask.

"Sure. What do you have in mind?" He asks.

"I wanted to go to the shops." I say.

"Oh...shopping?" He asks, clearly unamused.

"No, I'm not much of a shopper. I want to get my ears pierced." I say.

"What? Why?" Dougie asked.

"Because I'm boring. I figure if I get my ears pierced I'll be less boring." I say.

"Lilly, you're not boring. You don't need to get your ears pierced. I like your ears they're small and...ear-y." He said.

"I want to get my ears pierced." I insist.

"Fine then. Get your ears pierced."

"I wanted you to come." I whine.

"Why?" He asks.

"Because...I'm a bit nervous." I say. "Weren't you nervous when you got your ears pierced?"

"No." He says. "And I don't want to go. I don't like seeing people in pain. I couldn't even go when Danny got his ears pierced."

"Danny has his ears pierced?" I ask.

"Not the point...but yeah. You can't see them cause of his fringe."

"Please Dougie." I say. He sighs.

"Yeah okay. Let me get my coat." He said.

About an hour later, Dougie and I are parading around the shopping center with ice creams and I am continuously tucking my hair behind my ears so that the tiny diamonds in my rather pink ears can be seen.

"They look great Lil." Dougie laughs. He's made sure to wear one of Tom's beanies and sunglasses so people won't recognize him.

"Thanks." I smile. "Look at me. I'm so un-boring." I laugh.

"What's with you and this boring thing? Nobody said you were boring, Lilly." He says. I look at the ground. "Oh no did Harry tell you he thinks you're boring? Because I swear if you got your ears pierced because Harry-"

"Harry didn't tell me I was boring." I say. "Liam did."

"What? When? Why?" He asks.

"Last night after you left. I was talking about how I don't have any friends who are girls and he called me boring." I say. "It's not a big deal."

"Maybe not, but it wasn't nice." Dougie says. I shrug.

"Whatever. It's fine now that I have my ears pierced." I say.

"You don't need girlfriends. Tom, Danny, Harry and I take the place of like four thousand friends." He says.

"That's for sure." I laugh.

I get home at about dinner time and I hear someone in the back room.

"Liam?"

"Lilly?" I hear Liam say before walking out to greet me.

"Hey." I smile.

"Where were you?" He asks.

"Dougie and I went to the shops." I say. "Look!" I tuck my hair behind my ears.

"What?" He asks.

"I got my ears pierced. See?" I smile.

"You didn't have your ears pierced?" He laughed. "Oh god...what's for dinner?" I felt pretty disappointed at Liam's reaction.

"Could we just...go out tonight?" I ask.

"Sure." He says, grabbing his coat off the rack.

We made our way down to the lobby and I felt instantly nervous when I saw Steven at the front desk.

"Hey Lilly." He said.

"Leave me alone Steven. I'm on my way."

"Oooh! You brought a pretty boy!" He said.

"Are you drunk?" I ask.

"That's not the point. I'm a bit low on money right now. I could use an extra payment this month." He says.

"What is this guy talking about?" Liam asks.

"Steven is the building manager and he harasses me for money." I say to Liam, hoping he'll help me.

"Give me the money." Steven laughs.

"Liam?" I ask, hoping he'll tell Steven off.

"Just give him the money, Lilly." Liam replies.

"What?" I ask.

"You've got a good job. Just give the guy the money." He says.

I can't believe this.

I slowly walk up to the counter and put one hundred dollars down. I glare at Steven.

"Pleasure doing business." He smiles evilly. I walk out the door with Liam trailing behind me.
