My new book is coming along nicely... much better than this one, in fact.
I can't wait for the new season!
Anywho, enjoy!!!
Astrid was at war with herself over what to do, but she finally summoned all her courage and walked up the pathway.
"Hiccup?" She asked, looking down at the figure hunched before her.
He lifted his head and she had to bite her tongue to keep from gasping. His face was covered in fresh bruises and there were deep gashes-clearly from knives-all over the visible parts of his body. His eyes were wild and fearful and he was shuddering horribly.
"Hiccup, what are you doing out here?!" She demanded angrily.
He shrank back, his eyes as wide as a deer's in head-lights.
Realizing that she was coming across as angry at him, she sat down on the mat next to him.
"Sorry. What are you doing out here? Shouldn't you be inside?" She asked softly.
He trembled next to her and she sighed and wrapped her arm around his shoulders, trying to help him keep warm.
He leaned into her, grateful for the fact that he wouldn't freeze out here.
"Hiccup?" She prodded him.
He sighed. "Let's j-just say I'm n-not exactly w-welcome at the m-moment." He mumbled.
"What?" She asked, hardly believing.
He sighed. "Y-you think I'd d-do this to m-myself?" He asked, gesturing to his bruised face.
"Wait... but... I....... Hiccup?" Was all she managed to get out.
"J-just leave it, A-Astrid." He murmured. "Go h-home."
She frowned and stood up. "I'm not leaving without you."
He looked up at her in shock, and she pulled him to his feet.
She pulled him all the way back to her house, him struggling to get free. She pulled him to the door, unlocking it and trudging into the house.
"Wait!" He protested.
She glanced at him.
"I need to go home." He said, looking out into the dark.
"Don't even think about it, Hiccup. You're in no shape to go back to that place. You need help."
That got him mad enough to rip his arm from her grasp.
"I don't need help! Not from you, from Tuffnut, from anybody! Leave me alone!" He snarled.
"Hiccup! I'm just trying to... Nevermind. I just think that you deserve a break." She whispered, looking down.
"I don't." He snapped, turning away.
"Hiccup, please?" She asked softly.
He looked back at her and narrowed his eyes.
"I. Don't. Need. Help!" He growled.
As he turned back he felt a twinge of guilt, but he was sick of people and their pity. They could go straight to hell with their pity. He shivered as he stared at the trek before him.
He felt a hand catch his wrist as he started away, and he turned back, annoyed.
"Hiccup, as much as you don't wanna admit it, you do need help.
"Why would you want to help me?" He asked quietly.
"Back on that beach, you saved each and every one of the people I care about. One or more might be dead if you hadn't warned us, but you did and every one of them is okay." She paused for a second, gathering up her courage. "And... because you're a good guy, Hiccup. You deserve better." He looked at the ground, suddenly self-conscious. He scratched the back of his neck and mumbled something that she couldn't quite catch. She approached him cautiously, still afraid he might be angry.
