Me re-reading this: Why did I ever promise anyone I would finish this! It's so baddddddd ahhhh... But I know that I did promise so now I have to update it and I just have to live with the consequences.

If anyone wants to see anything happen with this fic I'm not really set in any strict direction so feel free to message me! My wish is your command!

Hopefully, there will be many more chapters in store!

Enjoy!!!

School.

It was sure to be the death of Hiccup.

Well, that and Tuffnut bouncing around his head excitedly as he chanted the way-too-early time and started Hiccup awake. He had spent the remainder of the weekend and Tuffnut's house after Astrid had kicked him out. In all his giddiness Tuff accidentally rammed his foot into the side of Hiccup's head and tripped, narrowly avoiding falling directly on top of Hiccup.

"Let's go, sleeping beauty! Time's a-wastin'!" Tuffnut bounced up and practically flew through the house and out to his car.

"I swear to the gods, Tuffnut, no one should ever be this excited about going to school." He grumbled.

"Lighten up, dude. School's full of possibilities... if you know where to look." He cast him a wink before they both climbed into the car and Tuffnut drove as recklessly as humanly possible towards the school.

They passed Heather, Astrid, and Ruffnut on the way to school, Ruff giving a very cheeky Tuff the finger as they flew by.

They got to school earlier than Hiccup ever had, and the halls were unnaturally quiet.

"I'm off to explore!" Tuff said, taking off down the hall at an exuberant pace.

Hiccup turned down the hall and headed towards the art wing. He meandered slowly, taking his time to look at the things on the walls whereas before he would have been dead-set on just getting to class.

As he walked down the halls, however, he discovered that Tuff was right. As he studied the art on the walls, he realized he had a lot more to learn before he could deem himself a great artist. In fact, he'd venture to say that he was still very much an amateur in more ways than just art.

Feeling only slightly better about the rest of the day, he crossed the rest of the distance to the art room and sat down in the empty class. Half of the teachers didn't get to school this early, and the other half were only there because they had to be.

He took out his notebook, drawing peacefully whatever came to him that he hadn't felt in a long time. Sure, he'd been at peace with Astrid, but this was something else. Something different. It was solitary, surrounding him like a bubble.

He knew that all good things must come to an end, though, as Tuffnut burst through the door as giddy as ever. He vibrated around the room, looking at all the art on the walls as he stared in wonder at it all.

"Can you believe this stuff, man? All these people, able to bring life into pen and paper."

"That was pretty deep for you, Tuff."

Tuffnut gave his Cheshire grin before turning back to the walls.

"Twenty minutes to kill. What should we do?" Tuff turned and sat down in a chair across from Hiccup, focusing his gaze on the scrawny teen.

"Look, Tuff, I don't care what you do. I'm going to get ahead on my assignment."

Hiccup pulled out his paints, and his still-wet canvas, before gently laying a thin layer of the thick substance on.

"I know I'm taking this class, but I do not understand any of this." Tuff grimaced as he stood by his own canvas.

Hiccup walked over, tilting his head and examining carefully everything the other had painted.

He began to point out everything that Tuff was doing that wasn't quite right, and before either of them knew it almost the entire class had poured into the art room.

When Hiccup looked up, he accidentally caught Astrid's eye. She gave him a look that could be described neither as hostile or friendly, so he guessed it was an improvement.

"Okay, class, settle in and get to work. We must finish our paintings by the end of the week, so I expect to see some of you after school."

Tuff made sure that the teacher was looking away as he leaned uncomfortably close to Hiccup's face. "So, Hiccup, how much does that person hate you?" He asked, pointing in the vague direction of another student. He didn't bother to be discrete, but at least he had the decency to lower his voice slightly.

"I don't know, Tuffnut! How could I possibly, at all, know that?" He whisper-yelled, making sure the teacher was still preoccupied. When Tuffnut shrugged he sighed. "Let's just say that everyone in this room would be a lot happier if I wasn't here."

"Oh c'mon. I'm sure that's not true. What about me? Don't I count?" When Hiccup rolled his eyes, Tuffnut glanced back around the room. "What about Astrid? I mean, you two seemed to be getting awfully close the last few days."

Unfortunately, Tuff's voice wasn't low enough to save them from the eavesdropping students who all glanced over at them at the mention of this.

Hiccup winced as he glanced over to where, sure enough, Astrid was glaring daggers at Tuffnut.

Tuffnut grinned, seemingly oblivious to the chaos that he had unintentionally started.

It's a step in the right direction, hopefully!

It's great to be back!
