Ashton paced outside Luke's bedroom door for a while, knowing that Luke would still be asleep. Unless Ashton woke him, Hemmings wasn't usually awake before eleven.
It took Ashton a good ten minutes before he slipped the handgun into his waistband and opened Luke's door.
He didn't want to do this.
It was barely nine in the morning but Ashton had to get this out of the way. The guilt wouldn't sit with him for long, or he hoped so anyway.
Luke stirred in his sleep - he was quite the heavy sleeper.
Maybe Ashton wouldn't even have to wake him up.
No. That was wrong. Ashton had to talk through this with Luke first. There was no way he could just take Luke's life.
He wanted to cut all emotional ties and finish the job, he really did. But it was difficult, especially after several of the moments he shared with Luke. They were few and far between, but it was something that he hadn't had in a long time.
He watched Luke in his sleep for a short while before shaking him awake.
He'd never been so nervous to finish something he'd started - there had never been so much self-doubt in his mind.
