Hemmings shakily took the gun from Ashton, swallowing hard.
"You want me to do this?" Ashton asked him and Luke just stared at the glinting gun resting in hand.
He was even considering this?
Apparently so. He had to. There was no other way out, especially if things were as the older man said they were.
He had never been gullible, but the sheer pressure Ashton was putting on Hemmings was too much.
"It'll be quick. It'll take a few seconds, if that. Then you're done."
Luke was failing at fighting tears by now and had been hit with the shattering reality that, whatever happened, this wasn't ending any other way than him dead in a ditch.
"I - I can - I - Uh - I don't -"
Luke cut himself off, hating the shake in his voice.
He had never held a gun in his life, let alone shot one.
"Just stay calm, it's not going to hurt..."
Luke's breaths were shallow now, and he was having difficulty doing anything except attempt to focus on what he was practically being forced to do. He couldn't even heed Ashton's words of 'advice'.
Things moved quickly from there.
Luke knew he was crying, and, at one point, begged Ashton to change his mind, to take pity on him.
But Ashton was extremely firm, reinforcing the idea that this had to happen.
Luke found himself shakily holding the gun to the roof of his mouth, at a slight angle. The cold metal barrel only worsened his fear.
Even when he tried to back out, Ashton held his hands in place and didn't speak.
Hemmings had no choice but to do as he was told, no matter how self destructive it was.
Luke pulled the trigger.
