Chapter 3 ~ A Broken Past

Aphmau walked down the hall to find room #143, her history class. On her way she bumped into some girls.

She looked up to see who it was, careful not to move her hoodie, and she saw a girl with hot pink hair and teal eyes.

"Um, what do you think you're doing?!" She cocked her head to the side.

"Going to my class, you?" Aphmau snapped at the pink-headed girl.

"Hmph, I wasn't going to bother you at first, but I heard that you interfered with my friend's boyfriend in gym class today." She lifted an eyebrow.

"I didn't interfere I just so-happened join his team."

"Yeah, right, do you think I believe you?" The girls behind her started laughing.

"I'm not saying you have to believe me I'm just saying I had nothing to do with it." Aphmau smiled a bit, to where it was barely noticeable.

"Ugh, well why don't you take off this hood? It looks stupid!" The pink-headed girl reached to grab her hood, but before she could touch it Aphmau smacked her hand away.

"OW!" She screamed. All the students in the hallway turned to look what caused that.

"S-Sorry! I-I have to go!" Aphmau ran off to her next class.

"Ugh, can you believe her? Hitting me? Seriously?! Let's go girls!" She walked away holding the hand Aphmau had smacked.

They were all talking about her, the way she acts, the way she talks, the way she is around others. But her friends Katelyn introduced to her just kept on walking when they heard people talking about her. Probably because they are friends and she acts different around them? No one knows.

It was dismissal now, and everyone was getting ready to leave Aphmau getting ready to walk out the door when she gets stopped by a voice calling out to her.

"Hey! Potato!" She turned around to see Lilly and Aaron standing there, Aaron seemed to not be interested in what was going on. "Oh! You actually responded to me! Haha! That's what I'm going to call you from now on!" She laughed. Aphmau just rolled her eyes. "Isn't that a good name for her Aaron?" Lilly turned to Aaron waiting for a response.

Aaron just shrugged and looked away.

"I mean, just look at her! She's so short and stubby!" Aaron chuckled, and what she said was not true, Aphmau was actually skinny due to the lack of food at the house. It was probably the hoodie making her look fat.

Aphmau just ignored them and went home.

"Aphmau! You're home! How was it?" Aphmau's mom, Sylvanna, greeted her.

"It was... Okay, I guess..." She took off the hoodie and let her ears and tail flow out of the suit. She shook the Meif'wa features and they fluffed out, like a scared cat.

"Well, it looks like someone was eager to let them out." Sylvanna smiled.

"They were very uncomfortable, stuffed in the hood, whenever I sat my tail would cramp up!" Aphmau complained.

"Well, I'm sorry Mija, but it's the only way we can hide that you're a Meif'wa from everyone." Sylvanna hugged Aphmau. "Trust me if there was a different way to hide it, I would do everything in my power to get it for you... Or if I could get everyone to like Meif'was the way me and your father do..." She paused and started to tear up.

"Mom?" Aphmau separated from the hug and looked at her mom, who was crying.

"I'm sorry, it's just, when the police found out you were a Meif'wa.. And  he tried to protect you.." She started crying again.

"mom, it's okay.." Aphmau started to tear up too.

~Flashback~

"Oh! What about Pizza Hut?" Sylvanna looked back at the 2 year old Aphmau who was in the back seat of the car. Aphmau smiled in agreement.

"Pizza hut it is!" Aphmau's father, John, reached back with one hand (and his other hand kept on the steering wheel) and tickled Aphmau, she laughed, kick and her tail swinging all around.

"Uh, John, the cops..." Sylvanna noticed the cops behind them with their lights on.

"Great, I must've been speeding.." John admitted. He pulled over and waited for the cop to reach the car. They were to busy to remember Aphmau's blanket to cover her tail and ears. Aphmau just sat in the back seat and started sucking her thumb and twirling her hair.

"Sir, I hope you were aware that you were 10 miles over the speed lim-- Wait.. You have a Meif'wa with you?!" The cop put down the piece of paper he had.

John looked back at Aphmau and quickly looked back at the cop who was dialing into his radio for the other cops. John had to act quickly, he jumped out of the car and tackled the cop

"Sylvanna! Quick! Get Aphmau out of here!" John said punching the cop

Sylvanna unbuckled and unbuckled Aphmau and got her out of the car, Aphmau started crying, and Sylvanna just ran, soon enough 3 more cop cars arrived. There was a lot of yelling and sounds of hitting and punching. Then...

Silence..

Then..

POW

A gunshot was heard...

Sylvanna was far but close enough to still see the scene, she turned around to see was the gunshot was for, but when she did, she wished she never looked back.

"NOOO!!"

~Flashback End~

"I'm sorry mom.." Aphmau was crying now.

"It's fine." She sniffled "It wasn't your fault." A few tears fell down her face. "Anyways, I have dinner ready, if you want to eat?" Sylvanna pulled away from the hug.

"Heh.." Aphmau wiped away the falling tears from her face. "Sure, I would like that." She smiled.
