Chapter 17 ~ Picking The play

Aphmau's POV

First day of theater started today. When I walked into the room, it was a lot like the other classrooms (Didn't know what I was expecting though..) except the fact that there was awards on the walls, and play posters on the wall.

"Alright students sit down!" The teacher ordered. We all followed.

I grabbed a seat next to Katelyn, since she was the one who got me into this mess...

"My name is Mr. Baxton, and I will be your theater teacher! Now would you all be silent as I call role!" The teacher called role and we were all present.

Though, I thought I heard him say Laurance at some point, but, I don't see him... Oh well.

"So today we are going to do a vote to see what play we are going to be preforming in front of the whole school!" I clapped his hands together. He pulled up 3 plays on the board for us all to pick.

Option 1 is: Little Mermaid (Really?! Are we 5?!)

Option 2 is:  Cinderella (Are you kidding me?)

Option 3 is: Romeo and Juliet (Oh my Irene! Everyone does that nowadays!)

"Are these really our only options?" Katelyn says.

"These are horrible!" I add. I heard other students complaining too.

"These are our only options! The other schools took the other ideas." Mr. Baxton says. "So decide now and write your answers on a half sheet of paper and put them on this table."

I grab a piece of paper and split it in half and give the other half to Katelyn. I really don't want to write any of them because they all suck. So I just pretend to write one down. There is a trash bin next to the table so I can just throw it away when everyone goes up.

I glance over at Katelyn's paper and see she doesn't have anything writen down either. She probably has the same idea as me.

When everyone starts to go up, I stand up with Katelyn and walk over to the table and secretly throw the paper away, Katelyn does the same.

"Alright! Did everyone turn in there votes?" Asks Mr. Baxton. We all nod. "Okay, this will take me a few minutes to count, so you can talk quietly to your friends."

I turn to Katelyn, who looks eager to say something.

"Oh my Irene, Aphmau. Those choices were horrible! Like, really? 'Little Mermaid'? Come on! Are we five?!" I nod in agreement.

"Yeah, that's what I said too!" I laugh.

"Yeah, and 'Cinderella'? That's the stupidest choice ever! And don't even get me started on 'Romeo and Juliet'! That's so cliché!" She rolls her eyes.

"Yeah..." I just shake my head. We are in High school! Not elementary or Middle!

Katelyn clears her throat. "So... I saw you with Aaron in the hall... Are you two a... Thing..?"

I feel heat rise to my face. "N-No... We are just friends..."

"Uh-huh..."

"Alright! We have a winner!" Mr. Baxton announces. All the students sit up in their chairs.

"The winner is... 'Romeo and Juliet'!"

"Are you kidding me...?" Katelyn slumps down in her chair.

"Ugh.." Some of the students say. But most of them are really happy.

"So we will start rehearsing next week! I just need to plan the outfits, setup, roles, and scripts!" Mr. Baxton seemed excited about this. "Also, next week we will begin roles. So prepare your lines!"

"Ugh..." I sigh.

Katelyn looks over at me and inspects me for a few seconds.

"Um... Katelyn?" I tilt my head.

"Oh, sorry! I just was thinking..." She looks away.

"About...?"

"Well, I thought you would make a perfect Juliet!"

"M-Me? No, no, no, no. I don't think--" Katelyn cuts me off.

"Of course you will! Just think out it!" Katelyn puts her hand on my shoulder.

I blush a light shade of pink.

"Don't worry, it's just a thought, not the real thing!" Katelyn reassures me.

I knew I shouldn't have signed up for this...
