We've been in Honduras a little over two weeks and it's just as beautiful as mom said it was. We go to sleep to the sound of the ocean and wake up to the sound of the birds chirping. Today mom said she had something she wanted to show us so we were up early dressed and ready to go by 8.
Where we going mom? Somewhere special she said as we got in the van. Seat belts she said looking at all of us. She wasn't driving but I knew she was being cautious of what could possibly happen especially here. We drove for like 40 minutes before stopping on the side of the road. Mom sat there for a minute looking at the busy street before we got out.
Mom what is this place Lo said. This is where my accident happened she said looking at the trees off the side of the road. Right here I said. Yeah I was driving and the car in front just stopped out of nowhere. I swerved to avoid hitting it head on and when I did the car flipped. Mom where you wearing a seat belt? It was so long ago that I can't even remember, I just remember thinking don't hit the car in front of me cause the car was older and there were kids in it.
Is this your first time coming to the site? Yeah she said looking away. But I thought that you were coming to Honduras for years. Yeah I went to the condo and never ventured out of the tourist areas where there was anything that could remind me of the accident.
Mommy is that the tree you hit Shi Shi said pointing to the tree with the yellow ribbon on it. Yeah it is she said nodding her head. I can't believe it's still here I was for sure that it would be gone by now. They even put up a monument to you mom I said looking at the statue. Yeah! I am no god or anything just an average person that made a snap decision. You were important enough to get a statue though. Thank god you walked away from it though mom, most don't walk away from accidents like that. No they don't she said looking at the tree.
I wanted to bring you three, my legacy here to see that it doesn't matter what you come against you can make it. The day of that accident everything could have went terribly wrong. I could of lost my life and not been here to see the two of you grow up or to even see you be brought into existence Santana. Have you ever brought the other moms here? Nope they wouldn't come and honestly I don't blame them.

I couldn't stop crying, looking at this site brought back so many memories of when it happened. The day we found out that she was in a car accident it felt like my heart broke in a thousand pieces. And then when she came back home she was so fragile and all I wanted to do was stay close to her because I didn't want to lose her. I couldn't touch her cause she was a neck brace and leg cast and all these other issues with us not being able to spend a lot of time with her till she was fully healed.
Ilori she said grabbing my shoulders. I can't look at it mama I said shaking my head. Look at me she said pulling my face up to hers. You look so much like me its crazy girl. I know it hurts trust me I do cause ever since it happened to me I've been afraid to drive Lo. Really you don't seem like it though. But I am it takes a lot for me to get behind the wheel and drive. You ever wonder why we started taking car services to certain places. I just thought yall didn't want to drive or for people to know what cars you drove. No it's because sometimes Lo I get panic attacks about driving, its better now I can control it but in heavy traffic no I can't do it.
The other moms know? Yeah they do, they are the ones that encourage me and let me know its okay to be afraid. I didn't know mama you don't show it. I don't show weakness because I don't want my girls to see me like that. Mama you aren't weak though Vi said coming over to us. How do you know that? Because you are one of the strongest women I've ever meet. You got yourself out of a dangerous situation with someone who was supposed to love and cherish you. You fought to get the love of your life back when she pretty much couldn't for her own self. And then...then in a split second you made a decision and that almost cost you your life but you fought mom you fought so hard to get better so that we could stand here today. Mama you are so strong Shi Shi said smiling at her. You think I am strong baby! Yes because when I was in that accident you never once cried. How do you know that Santana? Because I could hear you mama.
