Boxes everywhere, but I shouldn't be complaining so much. I was happy to finally have my own place. It was perfect for me. One bedroom, one bathroom, one kitchen, and one living room. May sound small but that's all I really needed.
"Hayley!" my aunt called from my new bedroom.
I walked into the empty room. "What's up?"
"Jeff just called. I have to go now." She hugged me tightly and I hugged her back.
"Do you think you can control it while I'm gone?" she whispered in my ear.
I pulled away slowly. "It's been a year Cordelia. I'm sure I can go a week without messing up."
She smiled, tears starting to form in her dark brown eyes. "I'm so proud of you," she croaked.
"Don't cry or else you're gonna make me cry. You should go before Jeff throws a fit," I rolled my eyes.
She wiped her eyes and gave me a stern look. "Be good," was the last thing she said before leaving the room.
I heard the front door close.
Finally I'm on my own! Don't have to deal with my aunt's stupid husband. I don't even know why she's with him, he's a total douche.
I was offered to go with them to the Bahamas but that wouldn't be fun if he's there. Plus that would mean missing a little over a week of my new school. Makes it worse that I have to go there in the middle of my senior year.
Moving changes everything.
I'm not originally from London. Far from it actually. California was my home until the accident happened. I was brought here for a fresh start.
Cordelia is the only family I have left. Well my mom is still around but she doesn't give one single fuck about me. I don't give any about her either. She never helped me. Only avoided.
I shook her from my thoughts and began to unpack. While I was unpacking a box I came across my freshman yearbook.
I went straight to the back to look at the autographs. Alek, my boyfriend at the time, was the first to sign.
'first signature! *fist pump* hey mrs.williams! xD you made this year unforgettable. maybe as time goes on we can look back at this on our graduation day, maybe wedding (; and laugh at my shitty writing. not sure what else to say but i love you. so yea. (: -your best boyfriend ever (alek)'
A tear fell landing on the signature. I closed the book and wiped my eyes before anything else could fall. Shit. Why do I always do this to myself? Instead of wasting anymore time I decided to throw it away. The past is something I've always had a hard time getting rid of. No matter what I do it always comes back.
I hooked my stereo up and began to let the music play.
Here in this world I'm awaked with mistakes
But its love that keeps fueling me
Fueling me
Pretty little lady with your swollen eyes
Would you show them to me?
I know I'm not that perfect
But you stay awhile
Baby, then you will see
Miles away I can still feel you
Lay your head down on my embrace
My embrace
Far away...
There was a loud knock at my door. I was hoping it was Cordelia so I could wrap my arms around her once more. Ask her to stay for awhile. Maybe even have a crying session. I turned down the music and opened it.
It was a guy. He was abnormally tall and had the skinniest pair of legs I've ever seen on a dude. His brown hair swept to one side and he had these big brown eyes.
I wasn't sure whether to look at his eyes or the tattoos that covered his arms and neck. They usually had stories behind them which always made me curious.
"May I help you?" I finally asked.
"I'm Oliver. Just wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood."
"Thanks. I'm Hayley."
It was quiet for a moment. He seemed to be focusing on something. "Is that Of Mice And Men I hear playing?"
"Smart guy. You're familiar with the band?"
"One of my favorites."
"That's cool. We should definitely have a karaoke night," I joked.
He laughed lightly. "Sure why not? Anyways I was wondering if you needed any help with anything. You don't look like you have a helping hand."
"That's really nice of you but I'm done actually," I lied. Of course I wasn't gonna let him in. I had barely met him not even a minute ago.
"Good to know. See you later neighbor," he gave a peace sign before walking off.
That was awkward.

Within a couple of hours of unpacking and moving stuff, I finished. Everything was how I wanted it to be.
I celebrated by making myself a hot chocolate with the coffee maker Cordelia got me as a house warming gift.
I went outside onto the balcony. The cold greeted me, making me shiver. I looked down at all of the people going about.
Maybe this was going to be good for me. A fresh start.
My phone buzzed in my pocket.
Text from Cordelia. 'Forgot to wish you good luck at school tomorrow! Remember to control your gift. I believe in you.'
'you worry too much. see you soon.'
Gift. I hated when she called it that. It was more like a curse.

so that's the first chapter! i hope it's not too confusing. this story is going to be different from anything i've written so hopefully it's good so far!
i'm going to say it now so there isn't any confusion later on, the boys are not famous in this story. nobody is actually, if you recognize any of the other names. i will be making references to some band members but you don't have to go searching them up or whatever.
there's a picture of oliver off to the side and i also put the link for the song "when you can't sleep at night" too.
btw i'm not very good at british slang so sorry if any of you are offended by it.
since this chapter is short and boring i'll post the second chapter today also.
any feedback/questions???
