It was the usual market day on berk, and of course the gang won't miss it, they left the edge secured to come and buy what they want.
Astrid went to her house to greet her parents, Hiccup asked her if she wants to come with him, but she refused so he went alone.
He barely knew where to start, but already he'd seen five, no, six things that he was interested in  wait, make that seven...
Half an hour later, Hiccup and a rather disgruntled Toothless made their way back through the noisy crowd, both laden down with various interesting objects.
"Hey bud - sorry!"
Hiccup swerved as he narrowly avoided a grumpy-looking, big-busted Viking lady and her trailing husband carrying a large vase
"That's all for today, okay?" The Night Fury gave a small growling noise in return, causing all the items on his back to rattle together.
They were nearly back at his house when he noticed a glint of sunshine and blonde hair from the corner of his eye he turned to see Astrid standing there at one of the stalls, something shining in her outstretched hands.
"Astrid!" He called out to her with an excited wave  she was interested in the market after all! only to have her glance up, take one look at him and... run off.
He shared a quick confused look with his dragon before heading over to the stall where Astrid had been previously standing, taking her spot.
The female Viking serving the stall gave him a quick look over with a huge smile.
"it's Hiccup!" The named shared an awkward smile and a quick quiet greeting in return, looking over the wares in front of him.
A glint caught his eye again and he stopped, his gaze resting on a small ornate mirror which had been hastily laid down. He picked it up, two pairs of green eyes reflecting back at him as Toothless looked at it curiously over his shoulder.
"Ahh, you have a good eye!" The stall-owner grinned.
"That lovely young lady was staring at that only a moment ago! She said she liked the decoration."
Hiccup glanced up at her, surprised.
"Astrid likes this?"
He glanced down at the mirror again in his hand it was a beautiful golden colour, inset with pearls and purple gemstones. Surely she was mistaken, this was way too... too girly for Astrid... Right?
"I'll take it."
Hiccup said firmly after a moment's hesitation, gripping the object tightly.
"I just hope you were right..."

It'd been a long day, and both dragon and rider were exhausted. With both pockets considerately lighter, the pair made their way back to the house to drop off all purchases, before heading out to a favorite spot on Berk, a seaside cliff only a short walk away, to look out over the horizon.
As Hiccup sat there, he curiously looked down at the small mirror in his hand that he'd brought. He had no idea how to even give this to Astrid, what if the woman had been wrong? What if Astrid had really been looking at a massive axe or something? The young Viking sighed, running his finger absentmindedly over the inset gems, staring out over the sea.
Behind him Toothless suddenly made a greeting noise, and he bolted upright out of his thoughts, quickly hiding the mirror in his pocket.
"Hey."
Astrid swiftly sat herself down beside him, tucking a stray hair behind her ear. In her hands was a carefully wrapped bundle of fur, which she suddenly held out to him.
Hiccup stared at her for a moment before reaching out to take it.
"For me...?"
Astrid nodded in reply, looking embarrassed.
"I didn't go to the market with you because I, uh, well, I wanted to find you something."
A tinge of red covered her cheeks and she frowned, seeming worried.
"I hope you like it."
Turning his gaze down to the present in his hands, he quickly unwrapped it leaving a brown leather belt in his lap. It was well-made, sturdy, with a beautiful silver belt-buckle in the shape of a dragon. His heart thudded as he glanced back up at her, chest filling with emotion. She went and found this... for him?
"I... Thank you... Thanks Astrid." He mumbled, holding the belt up so he could study it better.
"It's... wow. I... wow..."
Astrid's eyes filled with relief as she realised that his reaction was a good one, giving him a quick smile.
"I'm glad you like it."
She sighed happily, leaning back on her hands.
"It took me ages to find..."
The blonde stopped as she remembered something.
"And uhm. Sorry for running away earlier. I didn't want you to see it."
Hiccup paused as he took in her words, glancing up at her with slight alarm.
"You mean, you weren't running away because you didn't want me to see the mirror?"
Astrid stiffened and stared at him in surprise, then she suddenly stood up, her cheeks going red again.
"Wh- .. What mirror? There was no mirror, I don't know-"
She blinked as Hiccup stood up with her, took something out of his pocket and gently pressed it into her hands. When she looked down at it, blue eyes stared back up at her out of the mirror she had previously admired, finding herself with a rather Un-Viking-like expression.
Across from her Hiccup watched with anticipation.
"This is what you were looking at, right?"
Astrid nodded, holding the mirror in one hand as she ran her finger over the gems around the outside.
"I.. Yes."
She glanced up at him before frowning, giving him a stern look.
"No telling anyone though, okay? I don't want anyone to know that I... I like this sort of stuff. It'd ruin my reputation, and the others..."
She groaned at the thought of their reactions, glancing away.
Hiccup merely smiled, reaching out to rest his hands on the tops of her arms reassuringly.
"Hey, no worries. Toothless and I won't tell anyone."
The Night Fury glanced up at the sound of his name before making a noise of agreement.
"At least seeing you care for this kind of stuff make me think for sure that you are a girl after all"
She punched his arm
"You know I'm still here, don't you?"
"Of course I do"
"Hey, now I'm angry"
"No you're not, I can see you smiling"
"Yes, you can"
They sat there staring at the sunset.

"Thank you, Hiccup"
"You're welcome, my lady"
