Hiccup sat at the edge of the cliff, a notebook and a pencil in his hands, a snorting Night Fury by his side.
The young man was thinking of his home, his favorite places.Hiccup had a lot of places he could call his favorite.
The sky was one of them, he loved the never-ending ribbon of blue above him whenever Toothless and him went out for a flight, the soft wisps of cloud that hung in the air, seeming weightless, the beautiful sunsets that were always painted across the sky before night-time, and then the glowing full moon, hanging there and shining light all over Berk. There was the small valley where he had first laid eyes on the dragon that changed his life, the lake where they had so frequently landed after crashing, each one emerging, soaked, but amused.
There was the platform of Berk that overlooked the sea, and although it held some bad memories, it held good ones too; the view was beautiful on calm days, and he could just sit there and draw.
It was whilst doing this that Hiccup realised that all three of the places had something in common.
They all reminded him of Astrid. The sky was where she had first treated him for who he was, where the flight of her lifetime had taken place. It had changed her life, and his.
The valley was where she had first kissed his cheek, a symbol of thanks.
And the platform was where she had questioned him, made him realise, made him act. She'd give him the courage and bravery to save Toothless, by doing something crazy. It was where she remembered what he'd said, something that she'd never forget.
It was while thinking over this that he realised that someone had joined him on the cliff, he jumped as he found Astrid's face close to his, looking down at his work.
It was then that he also realised that whilst thinking, his hand had been working for him.
He'd drawn her. A simple profile of her smiling, looking... well, beautiful. She smiled and wrapped her arms around his waist, hugging him tightly, and it was then that Hiccup decided where his real favorite place was.
It wasn't the sky, the valley or the platform.
It was in Astrid's arms, where after all of his life feeling uncomplete, he felt whole. Where after all the hurt in his life, he felt safe. Where after all the hate in his life, he felt... loved.
It was where he belonged because... she was his solace. And she always would be.
