They split from their hug, Astrid looked at Hiccup.
A tear slid down his face, and before he'd even realised, he was on his feet. Beside him Toothless sat with a sad expression, waiting a moment before nudging his arm, trying to offer some form of comfort.
Hiccup reached out a hand to pat him lightly on the nose.
"It's alright, bud"
He stared at the ocean waves, glancing back over at Toothless and giving him a sad smile.
"It's alright."
Astrid felt her heart sank seeing him like this,
"Come on Hiccup, we should get back"
She said before turning away and heading toward the edge.
Not because she wanted to, it was to hide the tears her eyes were making.
"Astrid"
She turned as she heard her name, drying her tears
"Please, don't...leave..me...alone,
I..miss her...so much"
He said with a cracking voice.
Astrid smiled and regained her place beside him, taking his hand and simply holding it as they stood in silence. The sound of the ocean waves was the only thing they could hear, but it was all insignificant to Hiccup.
But the warmth of Astrid’s hand in his was good enough for the moment. He offered her a grateful smile.
Astrid seemed to sense what he felt, and before Hiccup knew it he was staring at her hands in front of him. Her arms were spread open wide, and her smile was inviting.
Hiccup leaned to his left gently ending up in her arms. She folded them around him, pulling him closer. He could feel her chest pressing against his shoulder, her mouth pressed gently against the tip of his ear.
"I not going anywhere, I will stay with you no matter what, don't you worry"
Hiccup simply stayed in her arms, moving his own hands up to hold her arms. He felt warm, he felt cared about, and most importantly he didn’t feel empty. At that moment all he felt was all of his senses seeping into Astrid’s.
"Feeling better?" He heard her whispered into his ear.
"Yeah, actually."
He muttered against her shoulder.
"We’ve got to do this more often."
He felt her tug him closer, and he didn’t waste any time to turn completely into her embrace, resting on her shoulder.
"I agree."
Astrid could only comply.
