~~The Beginning~~

The last week of October. Mildly frosty wind hung in the air, creating a thick white fog, only just bearable to see through. Everyone getting ready for the blistering snowy winter. Buying thick clothes, new coats, snow boots.

Whereas me, I'm getting prepared for my ceremony... Yeah, I'm so excited. Can you not tell? No... Neither can I. Probably because I'm not. Now, you're probably thinking. Why aren't you excited? You're going to find you're other half?'

Well, that's exactly it. I don't want to go and track half way around the world for someone I don't know, and all I do know is that I have to spend my life with them. Just imagine if I get to them and they didn't like me. If they hated me.

Then what? I guess they're probably hoping for an amazing, funny, gorgeous girl... And they're going to get me. Plain, simple, average me. Dirty blond hair that ends at my shoulders, sea blue eyes... That's all there is too me. Nothing special. Nothing outstanding.

I don't see how people get excited for this. Most of my friends don't get to do this until next year. They keep telling me that I should be excited and that they're jealous, but I still can't see why. I just want to get the whole thing done with and meet him.

Adventure. The adventure is the only thing I'm excited about. Since I was little, I've always wanted to go on an adventure. I'd run around the guardian with my friend Dylan, getting into trouble mostly, but who cares at least I'm not dreading all of it.

"Soooo?" My best friend Freya and I were walking to collage.

"So what?" I asked, knowing what she was going to say.

"Next week!" She squealed, pushing my arm.

"What about it?" I acted like I didn't know.

"Gen, come on! It's your birthday! I've already got you you're present." I think Freya was more excited than I was.

"Really? What did you get me?" I questioned.

"You'll find out next week won't you!" Smirking, she skipped along to meet everyone else.

Dreading the day already, I waltzed through the school gates. Seeing where Frey had gone, I manoeuvred my way through the crowd of sleep deprived students. Hugging and talking I found them all. There was: Dylan, Blake, Zach, Haley and of corse Freya. Smiling as I approached them, Dylan saw me first.

"Gen!" He picked me up and swung me around.

"Hey Dyl." I replied in a laugh.

"I'd put her down, she's nearly a taken woman." Zach shouted as Dyl put me back in the ground.

"Taken woman... I like that." Giggling, I embraced Zach.

"Speaking of..." Blake started hugging me. "How are you looking forward to it?" He asked as I let go.

"She's so enthusiastic about it." Haley sarcastically answered also hugging me.

"So your not looking forward to the adventure?" Dylan asked. I've known Dyl since I was about 5.

"Of corse I'm looking forward to the adventure and all that..." I paused looking towards the ground.

"But?" He asked.

"But nothing..." I replied as the bell rang through our ears.

Listening to 'Wake Me Up When September Ends' through my earphones, I was walking back home after collage.

"Gen?!" I heard someone faintly call my name and turned to see Dyl running towards me.

"Hey Dyl, what's wrong?" I asked turning off my music.

"Nothing, just wanted to talk." He replied.

"What about?" We reached my house and walked through the front.

"About this morning... You never ans-" Dylan was cut off by my mother.

"Dylan! Hunnie, never knew you were stopping by." My mother hugged him tight.

"Sorry Mrs. Sparks..." He looked towards the floor.

"Didn't be silly. You're always welcome in here. Do you two want anything?" She asked.

"I'm good, and so are you." I gestured towards Dylan. He shook his head to my mother. "When's dad back?" I asked.

"Not until tomorrow Hun. Why?" He'd been gone for about a month. I wanted to see him before I left.

"Just want to see him before I go." I admitted.

"You know... You don't have to go right away." Sadness filled her eyes.

"I know, but hey. The sooner I get this done. The sooner I get back right." I smiled.

"Right!" She agreed, for once.

Lying down on my bed with our school bags slumped in the corner, Dylan and I were talking about this morning.

"So you were saying about what you weren't looking forward too?" He asked.

"It's nothing." I quickly answered sitting up.

"You can tell me anything you know." I knew that I could.

"It's nothing really." He raised a questioning eyebrow. "Fine. It's just... What if, when I do meet him, he doesn't like me. What if he hated me?" I gave in.

"And why would he do that?" I'd never told anyone that before. Probably because I didn't think anytime would understand. He sat up next to me and leaned back against the wall.

"Because, I'm nothing special. I'm just me... Imogen Sparks." I lowered my head.

"What do you mean 'nothing special'?" He mocked me. "You're the most special person I know. I guess you can be a tad stupid at times, but who cares. Whoever it is, they'll be lucky to have you." He shot me a reassuring smile and hugged me.

"Thanks Dyl. You've always been here to help." I said. "And you will be the first to meet him and approve." I joked.

"I better... Oh gosh! What if you get to wherever it is, and it's a girl!" At this point he burst out laughing. I joined him just thinking about it.

"Oh god! I'd never thought about that! Well, she better be pretty." I winked at him and we laughed even more.

How I was going to miss this. Just laughing. Being with my friends. Being stupid and crazy without being judged. I have everything ready. I have a suitcase full of things, my bag pack of essentials, my camera (because of the scenery).

All that I needed now was my necklace. The necklace that is going to find me my destiny. Not that I believe in all that crap. I didn't believe in fait or destiny. I do however believe that everything happens for a reason, even if it's bad, something good will soon come. I hope for my sake anyway.
