~~Waiting~~

Pacing up and down the hospital corridors... Up and down... Up and down. Trying to be calm, but it's obvious it's not working, being as I've been doing this for like an hour now.
After getting everything ready, and getting 'the priority' (Nate) stable, they finically started the procedure about 20 minuets ago. They told me it would take about an hour or two, depending on how well he, and his body, was going to cooperate with them.
I decided that I couldn't stay here any longer. Waiting around. Doing nothing. Being a useless dumbfuck. I decided to take a walk around the hospital. Going through each ward. From infants, to toddlers, to children, teens, adults, elders... Every generation was here. Some family members scattered along the hallways. Some crying because of deaths. Others cheering because of life. It was fascinating.
Until I reached the teens cancer ward. These wards were always the worst ones. Not just because they're full of terminally ill teens... But because... I use to have this friend. Her name was Scarlett. I met her in a hospital back at home. She had cancer too. I was in hospital to get my pancreas removed. She was in the teens ward in the same room as me.
We started talking a lot and she was telling me that it isn't as bad as it seems. I always use to say that for someone that knew they wouldn't get better, she was the happiest person I knew. So we bonded and when I got better and was allowed to leave I made a promise that everyday after school I would come and visit her. And I did. I lived up to my promise. I went to see her everyday. Out parents started talking too. We made a scrap book. Being as we were like 14 you can't judge us.
But one day I got a call from her parents telling me she had passed. This was like 2 years after I met her. So I would have been about 16-17 when she died. And i know this is going to sound so ultimately cheesy... A bit of me does too... That's it get the awe's out of the way... But I seriously miss her. And being here isn't helping. But I still walk through, anything that going back there.
Paintings and pictures, boldly glued and hung all over the walls. I assume that these were pictures of the patients and their artwork. The walls were bright and bold. With twitter names Instagram names... ect... Then here was names and family me enters, One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer, Justin Bieber and all that wrote on the walls. Fangirls much.
I came across a room with a small circle of teens inside.
"They're so brave." A woman told me.
"What are they doing? Are they patients?" I asked her.
"No. Their family members or friends are in hospital and this is where they come to talk about it. How old are you?" She was a middle aged woman. Short brown hair, brown eyes, just taller than me. Dressed in scrubs, so she worked here.
"I'm 18. Nearly 19." I answered her.
"And who are you here with?" She asked.
"My boyfriend is in surgery. He got shot." I saddened, remembering the moment.
"Go in. They have just started." She went to open the door.
"I should just watch-" she opened the door anyway and introduced me.
"Everyone. This is..." She turned to me.
"Imogen. But call me Gen..." I said shyly.
"Go take a seat there next to Brooke." She told me.
Without looking I did. I took a seat and someone, I guess Brooke, nudged me.
"What..." I shyly asked.
"Gen?!" I looked up and it was Brooke.
"Brooke?!" I hugged her tight.
I didn't talk about why I was here at first. Brooke did though. Her brother is in intensive care. He is 10. I feel sorry for him. She said he has a terminal illness. I got asked. I answered. Brooke forced me of course. Some were shocked when I told then that note got shot. But Brooke gasped when i got asked who he was. I said 'he's my boyfriend' and broke smiled a happy smile.

"Pleasure to meet you Hunnie." Brooks parents said to me.
"You too." I smiled and walked out with Brooke following me.
"So..." She asked.
"So what?" I asked in return.
"What you said before about Nate..." She paused.
"What about him?" I asked slowing my pace as I reached the steps to the hospital front.
"Nate... Nate being the guy you met before you found 'Him'?" she asked.
"Yeah..." I sat down at this point.
"What about Zeke... Was it?" She sat down too.
"That's another story... So what happened was..." I told her. I explained everything. "And then they shit Nate. This was the first place I saw." I finally breathed.
"That's a long story indeed." She smiled.
"And you didn't know how many times I've told that." I joked. "But seriously... Your not mad are you?" I questioned her look.
"Why would I be mad?" She asked back.
"Because I know you have a opinion on following this law because it helps people... And I broke it..." I told her.
"Gen... Are we friends or not?" I was confused.
"What does that have to do with-"
"Are we friends or not?" She repeated.
"Corse we are..." I said.
"Better had be. I'm not mad at you. You have had an adventure. You have done what you set out too. I'm inspired. And I need to see this Nate if he's so gooooood." She dragged out the o's.
"Come on. We will go see him now... Or do you want to get home. It is late." I said.
"Come on. Let's go see this hunk of yours." She grabbed my hand and dragged me with her.
